Walter and Lance suddenly have to work as a team, or the whole world is in peril. “Spies in Disguise” flies into theaters this Christmas.

Before watching the film, I binge watched all six seasons of Downton Abbey, and fell in love with the Crawley family drama all over again.  It truly is a remarkable series with well-written characters, beautiful scenery and gorgeous costumes.

If you are not caught up on Downton Abbey, you can watch a series recap in the video below:

If you're new to the series, you can watch Downton Abbey The Motion Picture as a stand-alone film.  But I would suggest you watch the series first, as you'll have a better feeling for all the characters and their histories.

The film is a bit different from the series:  a bigger scale, different camera angles, and a constrained time frame.  But it has most of the characters you love from the series as well as some new people.

Giveaway, Holiday Gift Guide, gifts for her, gifts for period drama fans

While I loved the film, I felt that a few of the plot lines were a bit rushed as well as predictable.  I don't want to give any spoilers if you haven't seen it.  But the time constraint made it difficult to flesh out some of the relationships like I am used to in the series.

Molesley totally steals the show in the film.  He had many funny moments, but watch for this one scene at dinner.  It had everyone rolling with laughter in the theater!

I suggest you bring tissues, as there is one scene that may bring you to tears.   I won't spill the beans, but it's pretty poignant and emotional.

Downton Abbey The Motion Picture is hopefully not the last we will see of Downton Abbey; the ending leaves you wanting more.  I am hopeful that the success of the film will encourage the writers to continue with a sequel.  {Pretty, Pretty, Please!}

Family Friendly Movie reviews, Holiday Gifts for Kids, Stocking Stuffers for Kids

DreamWorks Animation and Pearl Studio’s co- production ABOMINABLE is a magical action-packed adventure for the whole family.

Yi, Everest and the gang come home just in time for the holidays on Digital December 3, 2019 and on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray™, DVD and On Demand December 17, 2019 from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.

Abominable is a fresh take on Yeti mythology.  Everest is a magical creature that brings a lot of laughs and cuteness to the screen.  My family really enjoyed the adventure Yi and her friends go on to bring Everest back to his home and his family.   It was refreshing to see a diverse cast and learn a bit more about Chinese culture.  The visuals are stunning; I can only imagine the film in 3D and feeling like you really are in the Himalayas!

Warning:  if you have a child who has lost a parent, this may be very emotional for them.  The film deals with some pretty heavy themes:  loss, the grieving process, and finding hope.  But it also is about friendship and family bonds.

We also enjoyed all of the bonus features, especially where they teach you how to draw.

Abominable is a magical journey the whole family can enjoy together!

Holiday Gift Guide, Gifts for Kids

From the studio that brought you How to Train Your Dragon, this heartwarming and humorous story follows teenage Yi (Bennet) as she encounters a young Yeti on the roof of her apartment building in China, she and her mischievous friends, Jin (Trainor) and Peng (Tsai), name him “Everest” and embark on an epic quest to reunite the magical creature with his family at the highest point on Earth. But the trio of friends will have to stay one-step ahead of Burnish (Izzard), a wealthy man intent on capturing a Yeti, and zoologist Dr. Zara (Paulson) to help Everest get home.

This magical journey is brought to life with the voice talents of Chloe Bennet (“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D”), Golden Globe® and Emmy® Award winner Sarah Paulson (“American Horror Story”), Eddie Izzard (Cars 2), Tenzing Norgay Trainor (“Liv and Maddie”), Albert Tsai (“Fresh Off the Boat”), Tsai Chin (The Joy Luck Club) and Michelle Wong (“Scandal”). It is written and directed by Jill Culton (Open SeasonToy Story 2Monsters, Inc.) and co-directed by Todd Wilderman (Open Season 2).  The film is produced by Suzanne Buirgy and Peilin Chou.

Frozen 2 is now in theaters and we had the opportunity to see it this weekend, thanks to Allied Philly for this sponsored post.

We have been eagerly waiting for months for this sequel.  Years even.  My oldest daughter was in preschool when the first Frozen debuted.  My youngest didn't have the opportunity to see Frozen in theaters, but she also quickly became Frozen obsessed.

No Spoilers Review

Was Frozen 2 worth the wait?

Frozen 2 was definitely worth the wait.  Both of my girls absolutely without a doubt loved it.  My husband and I even loved it.

As with any sequel, it is super hard to top the first film.  Frozen had so many great songs and a wonderful story line.  Frozen 2 also has some great songs, maybe not to the extent that the first Frozen did, but Idina Menzel knocks it out of the park with "Into the Unknown."  The Panic at the Disco version at the end of the film is incredible too.  I cannot believe any human can hit those notes; totally unreal.

The plot line shows just how strong Ana and Elsa's connection is as sisters Elsa discovers the origin of her powers.  I won't give any spoilers, but there are some surprises that you might not have expected.  Some reviewers have stated that this plot is darker and intense for younger kids.  I didn't find it to be as dark as people made it out to be.  There were some emotionally charged moments, but nothing that scared my five year old.

You'll meet some new characters that are human and some that are animals.  The animal characters steal the scenes.  Olaf is just as lovable and funny as always.  There are some cheesy moments, including a hilariously cheesy 80's ballad that my husband and I couldn't help but laugh about.

While I didn't quite connect with the spiritualism in the film, it does emphasize the importance of caring for other people, animals, and the earth.  There are also great themes of friendship, family bonds, strength, persistence, and taking that next step when things are hard overwhelming ("Do the Next Right Thing").

If you're a Frozen fan,  you should definitely see Frozen 2.  Did it top the original Frozen?  No, but it is still a worthy sequel.
