This post is sponsored by Allied IM Philly.  All opinions are mine.

October is Fire Safety and Prevention Month to raise awareness about fire safety and help ensure your home and family is prepared in the event of an emergency.

Paramount's new film PLAYING WITH FIRE happens to be coming to theaters November 8th.  I've put together ten fire safety tips for your family to coincide with the movie's release and Fire Safety and Prevention Month.  Keep reading to find out how to enter our local giveaway for Playing With Fire movie swag thanks to Allied Global Marketing.

Ten Fire Safety Tips:

1.  Install smoke alarms on every level of your home, inside bedrooms and outside sleeping areas.

2. Once a month, check each alarm in the home by pushing the test button.

3.Replace batteries in smoke alarms at least once a year. Immediately install a new battery if an alarm chirps, warning the battery is low.

4.  Have a fire escape plan: Make sure that all household members know two ways to escape from every room of your home, and where to meet up outside.  Practice the fire escape plan together.

5. Make sure every child in your home knows how to dial 911.

6.  Use quick-release devices on barred windows and doors. Security bars without release devices can trap you in a deadly fire. If you have security bars on your windows, be sure one window in each sleeping room has a release device.

7.  Consider getting escape ladders for sleeping areas on the second or third floor. Learn how to use them, and store them near the windows.

8.  Teach everyone in your house where the fire extinguisher is and how to use it (as appropriate to age).

9.  Teach your children to STOP, DROP and ROLL if their clothes should catch on fire and practice staying low to the floor to escape.

10.  Check electrical cords regularly, and make sure cords do not run across doorways or under carpets where they could be damaged.

Movie Ticket Giveaway

Synopsis:

When straight-laced fire superintendent Jake Carson (John Cena) and his elite team of expert firefighters (Keegan-Michael Key, John Leguizamo and Tyler Mane) come to the rescue of three siblings (Brianna Hildebrand, Christian Convery and Finley Rose Slater) in the path of an encroaching wildfire, they quickly realize that no amount of training could prepare them for their most challenging job yet – babysitters. Unable to locate the children’s parents, the firefighters have their lives, jobs and even their fire depot turned upside down and quickly learn that kids – much like fires –are wild and unpredictable.

Last Christmas Philadelphia Area Screening Passes @lastchristmas #LastChristmasMovie

10/25/19
Grab your sweetheart for date night to see Universal's romantic comedy Last Christmas in theaters November 8th! I have first-come first-served free movie screening passes for Philadelphia area readers at UA King of Prussia.

Philadelphia area free movie screenings

Emilia Clarke (HBO’s Game of Thrones), Henry Golding (A Simple Favor, Crazy Rich Asians), Michelle Yeoh and Emma Thompson star for director Paul Feig (A Simple Favor, Spy, Bridesmaids) in Last Christmas, a romantic comedy inspired by a George Michael beat, from a screenplay by Academy Award® winner Emma Thompson (Sense and Sensibility, Bridget Jones’s Baby) and playwright Bryony Kimmings

Kate (Emilia Clarke) harumphs around London, a bundle of bad decisions accompanied by the jangle of bells on her shoes, another irritating consequence from her job as an elf in a year-round Christmas shop. Tom (Henry Golding) seems too good to be true when he walks into her life and starts to see through so many of Kate’s barriers. As London transforms into the most wonderful time of the year, nothing should work for these two. But sometimes, you gotta let the snow fall where it may, you gotta listen to your heart … and you gotta have faith.

Last Christmas features the music of George Michael and Wham!, including the bittersweet holiday classic of the film’s title. The film will also premiere brand new unreleased material by the legendary Grammy-winning artist, who sold more than 115 million albums and recorded 10 No. 1 singles over the course of his iconic career. The film is produced by BAFTA winner David Livingstone for Calamity Films, by Emma Thompson, and by Paul Feig and Jessie Henderson for Feigco Entertainment. The film is executive produced by Sarah Bradshaw.

The Lion King Cast and Crew

“The Lion King” stars Donald Glover (“Atlanta,” “Solo: A Star Wars Story”) as future king Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter (“Dreamgirls,” “Lemonade” visual album) as Simba’s friend-turned-love-interest Nala, and James Earl Jones (“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” “Field of Dreams”) as Simba’s wise and loving father, Mufasa, reprising his iconic performance from Disney’s 1994 animated classic. Chiwetel Ejiofor (“12 Years a Slave,” Marvel Studios’ “Doctor Strange”) portrays Simba’s villainous uncle Scar, and Alfre Woodard (“Juanita,” Marvel’s “Luke Cage”) plays Simba’s no-nonsense mother, Sarabi. JD McCrary (OWN’s “Tyler Perry’s The Paynes,” Apple’s “Vital Signs”) voices Young Simba, a confident cub who can’t wait to be king, and Shahadi Wright Joseph (NBC’s “Hairspray Live!” Broadway’s “The Lion King”) brings tough cub Young Nala to life.
John Kani (Marvel Studios’ “Black Panther,” “Coriolanus,” Marvel Studios’ “Captain America: Civil War”) is the wise baboon Rafiki, and John Oliver (HBO’s “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver,” Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart”) was tapped as hornbill Zazu, Mufasa’s loyal confidant. Seth Rogen (“Sausage Party,” “Neighbors”) lends his comedic chops to naive warthog Pumbaa, and Billy Eichner (“Billy on the Street,” FX’s “American Horror Story”) delivers the know-it-all meerkat Timon. Scar’s hyena allies include Florence Kasumba (Marvel Studios’ “Black Panther”) as Shenzi, Eric André (Adult Swim’s “The Eric André Show,” FXX’s “Man Seeking Woman”) as Azizi, and Keegan-Michael Key (“Predator,” Netflix’s “Friends from College”) as Kamari.
“The Lion King” is directed by Jon Favreau (“The Jungle Book,” Marvel Studios’ “Iron Man”) and produced by Jon Favreau, Jeffrey Silver (“Beauty and the Beast,” “Edge of Tomorrow”) and Karen Gilchrist (“The Jungle Book,” “Chef”). Jeff Nathanson (“Catch Me If You Can,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales”) penned the screenplay based on the 1994 screenplay by Irene Mecchi, Jonathan Roberts and Linda Woolverton. Tom Peitzman (co-producer “Kong: Skull Island,” “Alice in Wonderland”), Julie Taymor (director “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” Broadway’s “The Lion King”) and Thomas Schumacher (“The Lion King,” “Beauty and the Beast”) are executive producers, and John Bartnicki (“The Jungle Book,” “Chef”) is co-producer.
The award-winning team of artists tapped to bring the African savanna and its animal inhabitants to life includes visual effects supervisor Robert Legato, who conceived the virtual production on “Avatar,” won Academy Awards for his work on “The Jungle Book,” “Hugo” and “Titanic,” and was nominated for an Oscar for his work on “Apollo 13,” and Oscar-winning animation supervisor Andrew R. Jones (“The Jungle Book,” “Avatar,” “World War Z”). MPC Film’s VFX supervisors are Adam Valdez (“The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring,” “The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers”), who won an Oscar for his work on “The Jungle Book,” and Elliot Newman (“The Jungle Book,” “Fast & Furious: Supercharged”). MPC Film was instrumental in bringing each character to life and building the movie’s full CG environments, as well as working with filmmakers to develop the virtual production technology.

Our Thoughts:

My two daughters loved seeing Simba and Nala looking so realistic as lion cubs.  The opening scene where they hold up baby Simba brought out lots of "aw" and "he's so cute!"  They also loved singing along with familiar songs from the original.

For me,  the live-action version felt a little strange watching what looked like real lions on the screen start moving their mouths and talking or singing.  The original animated film really fit; but the translation to live-action was a little weird for me.  I can't quite put my finger on it, but something just felt a little off.

It was also a bit long and slow going to hold my five year old's attention.  We had to watch it in two parts.

The Lion King live-action film wasn't our favorite live-action remake.  We didn't love it as much as Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, or Aladdin.  But it did make us want to watch the animated version all over again!

{Sometimes it takes a few views for a movie to grow on you.}
