ABOUT THE MOVIE

From Disney and visionary director Tim Burton, the all-new grand live-action adventure DUMBO expands on the beloved classic story where differences are celebrated, family is cherished and dreams take flight.

Circus owner Max Medici (Danny DeVito) enlists former star Holt Farrier (Colin Farrell) and his children Milly (Nico Parker) and Joe (Finley Hobbins) to care for a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him a laughingstock in an already struggling circus.

But when they discover that Dumbo can fly, the circus makes an incredible comeback, attracting persuasive entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere (Michael Keaton), who recruits the peculiar pachyderm for his newest, larger-than-life entertainment venture, Dreamland. Dumbo soars to new heights alongside a charming and spectacular aerial artist, Colette Marchant (Eva Green), until Holt learns that beneath its shiny veneer, Dreamland is full of dark secrets.

Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase Avail on Blu-ray 4/2 @WarnerBrosEnt Plus #Giveaway #Sponsored #NancyDrew

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase which I reviewed in this Blog Post. The opinions I share are my own. This post contains affiliate links.

Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase arrives from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment on digital March 26th and Blu-ray Combo Pack/DVD April 2nd.

movie review, giveaway

The iconic mystery solving teenager from the classic Nancy Drew books is back with an all-new feature length film that will keep you guessing until the very end! Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will release Nancy Drew And The Hidden Staircase on Digital starting March 26, 2019 and Blu-ray™ Combo Pack & DVD on April 2, 2019. Executive Produced by Ellen DeGeneres, the film stars Sophia Lillis (IT and “Sharp Objects”), Sam Trammell (“True Blood” and “This is Us”), and Linda Lavin (“The Good Wife” and“Alice”) and follows Nancy Drew in her new town, making new friends and on a mission to solve the case!

After the death of his wife, Carson Drew decides to leave Chicago behind and make a fresh start with his daughter in River Heights. But for 16-year-old Nancy Drew, life in a small town is mighty dull. She longs for excitement, adventure, and the chance to make a difference. Nancy gets that opportunity when she is asked to help solve the ghostly activity at the Twin Elms mansion. Can she help explain the creaking footsteps, exploding lightbulbs and the ominous creature? Is it the handiwork of high-school bully Derek Barnes? Or is it possible that the ghost of original owner Malcolm Colfax is back for revenge? Recruiting her best friends George and Bess, along with local “mean girl” Helen, Nancy Drew is on the case!

Did You Know?

*Nancy Drew is 90 years old; created around 1930
*Carolyn Keene, the supposed author of Nancy Drew, doesn't exist.  Various authors wrote under this name, including Mildred A. Wirt Benson who wrote 23 of the 30 original Nancy Drew stories.
*In the early books, Nancy Drew was blonde.  Her hair became more of a red shade about 1957.

My Thoughts:

My eight year old daughter and I watched the film together.  I remember reading the books as a child and loving the mysteries that Nancy Drew was always able to solve.  I was super excited to share my nostalgia with her.  While this isn't exactly the Nancy Drew I remember from my childhood, it is a more updated Nancy Drew for this generation including today's technology {You probably never imagined Nancy Drew skateboarding with a cell phone for instance}.

Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase reminds me a bit of the old Scooby Doo cartoons, where there are some weird and hokey things going on, but everything gets solved rationally and seems to make sense.   Nancy Drew stumbles upon some strange things happening at Twin Elms and with her dad.  She uses her smart wit and scientifically fearless brain to solve the mysteries.    But she also gets herself in some trouble along the way.  Nancy isn't perfect, and that is what makes her likable.

The film has some good messages:  that girls are strong and smart and can be empowered, how cyber-bullying affects people, learning from the consequences of your actions, and that people are not always what they seem to be on the surface.  It's a great family-friendly film for your tweens.  Hopefully the film will get them even more excited about reading the popular book series!
