Warner Bros Pictures, Chris Hemsworth, giveaway, sweeps, fandango giveaway, The Declassfied True Story of the Horse Soldiers, books made into movies

I'm sure many of us remember exactly where we were on September 11th, 2001.  I was in my (private school) classroom teaching like any other week day.  I remember someone from the office coming down to my room to tell me about the horrible events at the World Trade Center and The Pentagon.  Many parents in our school worked in DC, so there were parents coming in to pick up their children early and lots of talking in the halls.  I didn't know the magnitude of what had happened until I watched the news at home, and it was horrifying.

That day changed us all and changed the direction of our country.

12 STRONG is coming to theaters January 19th, and looks to be a very moving film based upon the book, 12 Strong: The Declassified True Story of the Horse Soldiers.

12 STRONG is one of the great unknown stories of American valor. Twelve brave U.S. soldiers dropped everything and ventured into an unknown land, outnumbered 5,000 to 1 to complete one of the most successful special forces missions of all time. However, they had to use the rudimentary tactics of the Afghan horse soldiers rather than state-of-the-art warfare to battle the heavily-armed Taliban. This is the amazing story of these 12 heroes and the families who wondered if they would come home alive.

Chris Hemsworth (“Thor”) and Oscar nominee Michael Shannon (“Nocturnal Animals,” “The Shape of Water”) star in “12 Strong,” a powerful new war drama from Alcon Entertainment, Black Label Media and Jerry Bruckheimer Films that tells the declassified true story of the first American soldiers sent into Afghanistan after 9/11.

Award-winning director Nicolai Fuglsig directed the film, which is produced by legendary producer Jerry Bruckheimer (the “Pirates of the Caribbean” films, “Black Hawk Down”), together with Molly Smith, Trent Luckinbill and Thad Luckinbill under their Black Label Media banner (“La La Land,” “Sicario”).

Oscar winner Ted Tally (“The Silence of the Lambs”) and Peter Craig (“The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Parts 1 & 2”) wrote the screenplay, based on the acclaimed book Horse Soldiers by author Doug Stanton. The executive producers are Oscar nominees and Alcon principals Andrew A. Kosove and Broderick Johnson (“The Blind Side”), together with Chad Oman, Mike Stenson, Ellen H. Schwartz, Garrett Grant, Yale Badik, Val Hill and Doug Stanton.

This film has been rated R by the MPAA for war violence and language throughout.

  5. What appeals to me about this movie is the superb cast. I saw them on GMA and they explained how this movie was based on the true story after the heartbreaking events of 9/11.

  6. I like that is a history movie based on some facts.

  7. Seeing a movie about American valor appeals to me.

  8. I find it appealing because this movie shows us what our soldiers face and go through while on duty. I also love the fact that it is based on a true story. God Bless America and our Troops!

  9. I find most military-related movies intriguing. The things soldiers go through and deal with are impressive and this movie looks very interesting. It helps that it also has a great cast with actors like Chris Hemsworth, Michael Shannon, and Michael Pena.

  10. I did a search for Jane Austen and I found your blog! This movie is going to be hard to watch (anything regarding our military is for me, I have family members interred at Arlington). But I'm so glad the story is being told. I haven't read the book (though now it's on my reading list!), but what is appealing about this movie is the cast and accuracy of what happened. I can't imagine what my friends have gone through, but I"m thankful that movies like these give us a glimpse!

  11. The previews make me want to see this. It looks like a great movie!

  12. I like that this movie is based on a true story, and that horses are involved. I hadn't heard of this tale until this movie has come out.

  13. As someone who has been part of a military family my entire life, I love movies like this. It makes me appreciate what my dad, brothers and husband all do to keep us safe!

  14. I didn't even know that this happened. So, I want to see what happened. Plus, Chris Hemsworth!

  15. The heroism of all our troops amazes me. I cannot wait to watch this movie. I'd like to read the book also. Thanks for the chance to win.

  16. Overall, the plot and cast :)
