WONDER The Movie in Theaters November 17th #Sponsored #WondertheMovie #ChooseKind

I received promotional materials for Wonder the movie.  All opinions are mine.

October is National Bullying Prevention Month, and in my daughter's classroom they are focusing on kindness.  It's such a simple concept but so important to model with our children.  They are like little sponges that absorb everything.  I want my children to have empathy for others and treat people the way they would want to be treated.

WONDER, which deals with these themes, has been adapted from a book into a movie coming to theaters November 17th.  And it's a movie you {and your kids} need to see.

New York Times Bestseller, books made into movies

Based on the New York Times bestseller, WONDER tells the inspiring and heartwarming story of August Pullman. Born with facial differences that, up until now, have prevented him from going to a mainstream school, Auggie becomes the most unlikely of heroes when he enters the local fifth grade. As his family, his new classmates, and the larger community all struggle to find their compassion and acceptance, Auggie’s extraordinary journey will unite them all and prove you can’t blend in when you were born to stand out.

Lionsgate, New York Times Bestseller

Courage. Kindness. Friendship. Character. These are the qualities that define us as human beings, and propel us, on occasion, to greatness.”
R.J. Palacio

“If every person in this room made it a rule that wherever you are, whenever you can, you will try to act a little kinder than is necessary - the world really would be a better place. And if you do this, if you act just a little kinder than is necessary, someone else, somewhere, someday, may recognize in you, in every single one of you, the face of God.”
R.J. Palacio

Lionsgate, Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson, book to movie adaptations, R J Polacio

I love the powerful messages in this film!  I highly encourage you to also read the book too, if possible, before seeing the movie.  And bring tissues.   I have a feeling you'll need them.  {I tear up just watching the movie trailer}

Get a “Choose Kind” shirt and support the wonderful work of PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center at http://omaze.com/choosekind.

We can't wait for WONDER to hit theaters November 17th!

Princess Peppa Now available on DVD #Sponsored #PeppaPig

I received a copy of Princess Peppa for review.  All opinions are mine.  This post contains affiliate links.

Peppa Pig is watched daily in our home.  Both of my girls love Peppa so much that they sometimes start speaking in the same accent.  It's incredibly cute!    We recently visited with Peppa at a local toy store for AK's birthday and she was in heaven.

Nick Jr

My girls absolutely love the new DVD that released October 10th called Princess Peppa!  They are all about dressing up and playing princess, and it's perfect that it is out right before Halloween.

In the new DVD, preschoolers join Peppa and her little brother George as their bedtime story turns them into “Princess Peppa” and “Sir George the Brave”! Together, they meet a wizard, encounter a scary dragon and celebrate a huge party! The fun continues with a visit from the tooth fairy, a trip to a castle and a special drive to find a rainbow’s end!

Episodes Include:
  • Princess Peppa
  • The Tooth Fairy
  • Treasure Hunt
  • Windy Castle
  • George’s Balloon
  • The Rainbow
  • The Queen
  • Perfume
  • The Wishing Well
  • The Blackberry Bush
  • Chloe’s Puppet show
Bonus Episode:
  • The Frog Prince from Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom

The episodes are a good length to keep my preschooler's attention.  She was incredibly excited to see Peppa wearing a crown and going on adventures with George as a knight!   I downloaded some fun coloring pages and activity sheets for her to do after we watched the DVD together.   My oldest particularly liked the Tooth Fairy episode, as she was recently visited by the Tooth Fairy after losing a very wiggly tooth.

We need to make another Peppa Pig mask soon too!

Each Peppa Pig: Princess Peppa DVD also comes with an “oinktastic” surprise – a limited edition princess Peppa plush, for even more imagination-inspiring play!  This limited edition set is sure to be a hit with your little ones!

Spookley the Square Pumpkin Now Avail on Blu-ray Plus #Giveaway @disneyjunior {Sponsored} #DisneyJunior

I received a copy of Spookley the Square Pumpkin and plush for review.  All opinions are mine. This post contains affiliate links.

Fall is all about the pumpkins.  Halloween just wouldn't be the same without them!  And if your kids are anything like mine, they love watching their favorite tv specials like It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown.  Alongside this classic, my girls have made it a new tradition to watch Spookley the Square Pumpkin on Disney Junior.

For the first time, Spookley the Square Pumpkin is now available in a Blu-ray combo pack and digital HD from Cinedigm.

Disney Junior

SPOOKLEY THE SQUARE PUMPKIN, written and created by Joe Troiano, tells the story of a square pumpkin living in a round pumpkin patch on Holiday Hill Farm. Although Spookley initially faces ridicule from his fellow patch-mates, he goes on to save the day during a terrible storm. As a result, all the pumpkins in the patch learn that the things that make you different make you special.

Disney Junior, Halloween, teaching kids about kindness, shows about anti-bullying, tolerance

In a world where the only good pumpkins are round pumpkins, Spookley is teased because of his square shape. Shunned by the other pumpkins, Spookley is befriended by Edgar, Allan and Poe, three hilarious spiders, who convince him that, square or not, he has a right to be the Pick of the Patch. But Big Tom and Little Tom, the pumpkin bullies in the patch, continue to tease and taunt Spookley.

Encouraged by kindly Jack Scarecrow and his bat sidekicks, Boris and Bella, Spookley tries his best, but he isn’t sure he has what it takes until a mighty storm threatens Holiday Hill Farm. When the storm blows the round pumpkins across the patch towards the raging river, Spookley realizes it is up to him and his square shape to save the day.

The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin
The Legend of Beacon the Bright Little Firefly
The Legend of JellyBean and the Unbreakable Egg
The Legend of Lyla the Lovesick Ladybug
The Legend of Mistletoe and the Christmas Kittens

This is the perfect length to keep little ones' attention with such an important message!   Spookley encourages children to learn to embrace their differences and know that it's okay to be who you are.  It also teaches about treating others with kindness, being strong and courageous, and the power of friendship.

My first grader has had to deal with feeling "different" when she got her first pair of glasses and some boys told her she looked weird.  Kids will be kids, but they also need to know that bullying is not okay.  Spookley is a character with whom all kids who have been teased or bullied can relate.

This year, Spookley the Square Pumpkin also returns as the "Official Spokes-Pumpkin" of National Bullying Prevention Month through a partnership with PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center. PACER, a non-profit organization based in Minneapolis, provides innovative resources for students, parents, educators, and others, and recognizes bullying as a serious community issue that impacts education, physical and emotional health, and the safety and well-being of students.  For more information on Spookley’s activities with PACER, visit: www.PACER.org/Bullying/

The animated television special, based on the bestselling Spookley book series, has been a long time Halloween tradition for families.  You'll want to bring home a copy today!

One reader will win a copy of Spookley the Square Pumpkin on Blu-ray plus one plush

Dutch Wonderland Happy Hauntings 2017 Family Fun {Sponsored} #DWHappyHauntings #DutchWonderland

I received tickets to Dutch Wonderland's Happy Hauntings for my family to review. All opinions are my own.

Happy Hauntings

My favorite thing about fall is the cooler weather and the chance to enjoy outdoor activities with my family.  This year, the weather has been much warmer and has fluctuated a lot.  But we made the best of our cloudy day and headed out to Happy Hauntings at Dutch Wonderland this past weekend.

If you arrive when the park opens, you'll see Duke, Princess Brooke, Merlin, and the Knight to the right of the entrance.  There wasn't a line and the characters were all very friendly, although my three-year-old refused to have her picture taken.

Dutch Wonderland, amusement parks in PA, Halloween activities, trick-or-treating

Trick or Treat Trail

We headed for Exploration Island soon after our quick visit with the characters at the entrance.

The trail wound along the dino dig area and through the dinosaur path.  Each child gets a bag to put their treats in, and adults get a ticket to turn into one of the employees for candy too.

Dutch Wonderland, Happy Hauntings, fall family fun, trick-or-treating, amusement parks in PA, amusement parks for kids

The dinosaurs were dressed in cute costumes; we recognized one from last year but there were also new ones like Smurfs, Beauty & The Beast, and Ghostbusters.  Employees were also dressed in cute costumes to match the dinosaurs and were very friendly.  AK's favorite was the Smurfs and AB loved Beauty and the Beast.

Dutch Wonderland Happy Hauntings

They offer non-candy treats for those who have food allergies {just ask the employee when your child walks up}.  We forgot to tell the employee at the first few stations, but they had stickers, yo-yos, spiders, poppers, bubbles, and spider rings.

There over 30 rides in the fall for different ages throughout the park.  Parents can ride on many of them with their little ones, which was great for our youngest.

Dutch Wonderland Happy Hauntings

Since this was opening weekend, it was very crowded and many of the lines were long.  {We waited about 30 minutes in line just for the Sunoco Turnpike cars.}  It's easiest to divide and conquer when you have two different age groups.  We had each child pick rides that they wanted, and we would split up and each take one to a different line.

AB loved the Monster Trucks and the train ride.  AK loved the frog hopper and the carousel.

Character Meet & Greets

My girls had a really tough choice to make this year.  We usually visit Duke for his meet and greet, but since it was at the same time as Princess Brooke's story time, they chose to visit her.  {At least I got one photo with Duke so we didn't break our tradition}

Storytime at Dutch Wonderland, Dutch Wonderland, Happy Hauntings, Halloween events

Princess Brooke read a fun Peppa Pig story and posed for photos after.  My girls loved it!

Food Options

There are many food options during Happy Hauntings including Merlin's Restaurant and the Millstream Eatery  Bean Sprouts has some healthier choices like sun butter and jelly sandwiches, grilled cheese and veggies and smoothies, though the food was a bit pricey.

I suggest saving a bit of money by packing snacks/meals and going out to your car and returning to the park; they will stamp your hand at the gate.

Amusement Parks in PA, Lancaster attractions, PA attractions, summer amusement parks, deals on tickets to Dutch Wonderland

  • Measure your child to find out what color Gem they are.  The map and each ride has a sign to show how tall you have to be to ride and whether you must ride with an adult.
  • Merlin's Mahem has not been completed yet, but the train ride is now open again.
  • It's worth buying a Dutch Wonderland cup; it costs $7.99 and refills are only $.99 all season!
  • Visit the Trick-or-Treat Trail on Exploration Island as soon as you can (we went right when the park opened).  The lines get really long as the day goes by.
  • Save $ by packing your lunch and leaving it in a cooler in the car.  There are picnic areas outside the park and you can have your hand stamped to re-enter.

Check out this re-cap of our day:

My family had a blast at Happy Hauntings this year!  It's a wonderful place to make memories with your little ones this fall.
