I received a copy of Touch the Earth by Julian Lennon for review.  All opinions are mine.

Julian Lennon, children's books, Earth Day

From internationally known singer, songwriter, and environmental activist Julian Lennon—along with New York Times bestselling author Bart Davis and beloved Croatian illustrator Smiljana Coh—comes TOUCH THE EARTH, an inspiring and lyrical story about how children can change the word and make it a better place.

In this debut picture book, readers will jump aboard the White Feather Flier, a magical plane that can go wherever you want, just point it up in the air, or down into the water. The White Feather Flier’s mission is to take children to places all over the world, engage them in helping to save the environment, and teach them how to keep it clean for future generations.

A passion project that comes from the heart, this stunningly illustrated book is inspired by the white feather he was given by his father when he was young. TOUCH THE EARTH is the first in a planned trilogy of similarly-themed picture books, and each will be released one year apart on Earth Day.

A thrilling interactive experience à la Press Here, readers will participate in the action by pushing buttons within the book to help “fly the plane.”

Lennon has written an original poem to accompany the release of this legacy book, and all proceeds will be donated to the White Feather Foundation.

Praises for Touch the Earth:
“When a book takes you on an adventure, it’s a good thing and allows you to think about something in a new way. When a book also reminds us how to treat what we have, it’s even better because it’s a win win. That’s exactly what Julian has done with his book. . . . He’s given us a win win.”
Whoopi Goldberg

“I’ve always admired Julian Lennon’s singing, because for all he has seen of the world, his melodies contain such childlike wonder . . . his words, too. Buy this book, and his words turn into actions.” —Bono

My two girls enjoyed this interactive picture book!  It is engaging and asks children to use their imaginations as they go on a journey to save the environment.  The cartoon plane brings your child on a journey from the ocean to the desert. It asks you to shake and tilt the book, press "buttons", and help steer the plane.  Your child will not only map directions like north, south, east and west.  But they will learn how important it is to take care of our planet and keep our water resources clean.

The illustrations in this book are soft and appealing to young readers.  And the message of the author is so important!  I love that all proceeds go to the White Feather Foundation, which is dedicated to environmental and humanitarian issues.  The foundation has funded clean water projects, scholarships for girls in underprivileged countries and more.

The story behind the white feather is incredibly touching; Julian's dad (John Lennon) told him if he passed away, he would send him a message that everything was going to be okay in the form of a white feather.  Later, an aboriginal tribal elder in Australia presented him with a white feather while he was on tour, and thus Julian knew his mission.

My girls can't wait to read the next book in the series!
