The Boss Baby In Theaters Today Mar. 31st #TheBossBaby #sponsored

3/31/17
I attended a free screening of The Boss Baby.  All opinions are mine.

Dreamworks Animation, movie reviews, animated films, Alec Baldwin, family-friendly movies
Synopsis:

DreamWorks Animation and the director of Madagascar invite you to meet a most unusual baby.  He wears a suit, speaks with the voice and wit of Alec Baldwin, and stars in the animated comedy, DreamWorks' The Boss BabyThe Boss Baby is a hilariously universal story about how a new baby's arrival impacts a family, told from the point of view of a delightfully unreliable narrator, a wildly imaginative 7 year old named Tim.  With a sly, heart-filled message about the importance of family, DreamWorks' The Boss Baby is an authentic and broadly appealing original comedy for all ages.
Cast:
Alec Baldwin, Steve Buscemi, Jimmy Kimmel, Lisa Kudrow, Miles Bakshi

Directed by: Tom McGrath
Written by: Michael McCullers (based on the award-winning picture book by Marla Frazee)
Producer: Ramsey Ann Naito

A new baby coming into the house certainly is an adjustment for everyone.  It's tough on the sleep-deprived parents, but it is also has a huge impact on the sibling(s) who are no longer the center of their parents' universe (especially for an only child).

The Boss Baby deals with these adjustments in a creative, witty and humorous way.  And it also gives a very interesting, somewhat confusing, explanation of where babies comes from (now that's a conversation every parent probably dreads).

A post shared by shelly (@theatticgirl) on

Tim is a happy, creative seven-year-old whose world gets turned upside down the moment the baby arrives in a taxi. You read that right, I said a taxi.  But I won't tell you why, because that would spoil the surprise.

As you can probably guess, there's some conflict between Tim and this new baby wearing a suit (he IS the boss after all, since babies do demand their needs be met at all times and right away).   But in the end, there are some heart-warming lessons that Tim and the baby learn about working together, sharing their parents' love, and learning how to get along as brothers.

As a parent, I could totally relate to the family's "labor pains" as they adjust to having a baby in the house.  Older siblings will also connect to how Tim feels when his brother seemingly takes all of his parents' attention and intrudes upon his cozy life.

There are some really hilarious moments in the movie for both kids and adults including naked baby booty, farting, and poop jokes.  There are also some adorable baby sidekicks!

A post shared by shelly (@theatticgirl) on

One of my favorite characters was the alarm clock wizard that wakes Tim up in the morning.  The wizard is supposed to be Gandolf from Lord of the Rings, and he is a total trip!

The Boss Baby is funny, heart-warming entertainment for the whole family!   This is one I'm sure we'll want to own and watch over and over again.

The Swan Princess: Royally Undercover Coming to DVD Mar. 28th #SwanPrincess #Sponsored

3/21/17
movie reviews, animated movies, family friendly movies

Get ready to go on an undercover detective adventure when THE SWAN PRINCESS: ROYALLY UNDERCOVER arrives for the first time on DVD March 28 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The newest installment of the beloved animated franchise follows the enchanting tale of young Princess Alise and her friends as they embark on a new adventure where they solve a royal mystery using their detective skills and spy gadgets. Featuring fan-favorite characters and all news faces, this next installment is the perfect fit for a new generation of Swan Princess fans, as well as nostalgic fans of the franchise.

Join “The X Factor” star Macy Kate in the studio as she records the theme song for THE SWAN PRINCESS: ROYALLY UNDERCOVER, "Born to Be Me."

Macy Kate also sang the theme song in the previous installment, THE SWAN PRINCESS: PRINCESS TOMORROW, PIRATE TODAY, which was titled "I'll Be Your Star."

Synopsis:

After mysterious visitors arrive in the Kingdom, Princess Alise, Lucas and their friends go undercover on a secret spy adventure to see if they can be trusted. They will need all of their superior detective skills as well as some super cool gadgets to solve the royal mystery and save the Kingdom.

Directed by Richard Rich from a story by Richard Rich and Brian Nissen, and a screenplay by Brian Nissen, THE SWAN PRINCESS: ROYALLY UNDERCOVER was produced by Richard Rich, Seldon O. Young, and Jared F. Brown, with Seldon O. Young, serving as executive producer.

My two girls love all things princess, so they were super excited to watch this movie!   The plot line kept my oldest glued to the screen to find out how Princess Alise and her friends stop the bad guys from stealing the royal gold.  The animal friends are pretty hilarious, especially when they wear their spy sunglasses to go "undercover" to watch the visitors.   AK loved the tattoos and spy glasses they sent us with the film!

There are many great positive messages in the film including the theme song "Born to Be Me."   The characters learn to work together to solve problems and find their own strengths in the process.  The film also emphasizes how important it is to care for others and help when people are in need.

The Swan Princess: Royally Undercover is a fun rated G film for the whole family to enjoy!

Smurfs Muddy Buddies Recipe Plus Giveaway #SmurfsMovie #RWM #ad

3/19/17
This is a sponsored post on behalf of Review Wire Media for Sony Pictures. I received information to facilitate my review as well as a promotional item to thank me for my participation.

movies, entertainment, sony pictures, movie swag, giveaway

Are you a Smurfs fan?  I grew up watching Smurfs back in the 1980's, when we only had basic cable and no DVR to record episodes in case you missed them.  Every Saturday morning, I got up early to watch cartoons and get my weekly Smurf fix.  I love that they have rebooted one of my favorite cartoons to share with my kids!

Smurfs: The Lost Village will be arriving in theaters April 7th, and it's sure to be another smurftastic adventure!  Read on to learn more about the film, how to make your own Smurf Muddy Buddies snack for family movie night, and enter to win some smurftastic swag below.

About the Movie

In this fully animated, all-new take on the Smurfs, a mysterious map sets Smurfette  and her best friends Brainy, Clumsy, and Hefty on an exciting and thrilling race through the Forbidden Forest filled with magical creatures to find a mysterious lost village before the evil wizard Gargamel does. Make your Own Smurf Muddy Buddies

Recipes, movies, entertainment, The Lost Village

Ingredients:

4 1/2 Cups Rice Chex cereal
2-3 Bags of Wilton Royal Blue Candy Melts
1/4 Cup Peanut Butter *
1/4 Butter or Margarine
1 TSP Vanilla
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 shaker of Wilton blue glitter Sprinkles
1 large bag of dark blue Sixlets

Supplies:

Mixing Bowls (microwavable)
2 Gal Ziplock Bag
Baking tray
wax paper
red and white polka dot Cupcake baking cups
Easter grass
Decorative basket

Instructions:

1.  Measure cereal into a large mixing bowl and set aside.

2.  Pour the powdered sugar and sprinkles into the 2 gallon Ziplock bag and set aside.

3. Cover a large baking tray with waxed paper and set aside.

4.  In a microwaveable bowl, add butter and Wilton candy melts. Microwave uncovered on high for 1 minute.  Stir.  Then microwave in 30 second increments and stir until smooth.  (Melting it over the stovetop might work better; I tried to save time by microwaving.)

Stir in vanilla.

*We omitted the peanut butter in this recipe due to my daughter's peanut allergy.  To make this recipe more allergy friendly, you can substitute the peanut butter with Wow butter or Sun butter, use peanut-safe white chocolate chips to dye dark blue, and allergy friendly sprinkles.  I couldn't find peanut allergy safe candy melts locally and needed a something quick & easy so I chose Wilton.

5.  Pour the blue mixture over the cereal and stir evenly to fully coat the cereal.

6.  Pour the cereal into the 2 gallon Ziplock bag and seal.  Shake until the cereal is completely coated.

7.  Unseal the ziplock bag and pour the cereal onto the wax paper-covered large baking tray.  Spread the cereal out and break up any big clumps.   (Some of the blue chocolate didn't distribute perfectly, but this was our first time making them.)   My daughter calls the imperfect lumpy pieces Smurf poop!

8.  Put the tray in the fridge for about 15 minutes to set.

9.  Once the muddy buddies are out of the fridge, use a spoon to scoop them into the red & white polka dot Baking cups.  Add sixlets as desired.

I used a Mikasa basket to display the Smurfs Muddy buddies inside the toadstool baking cups with some Easter grass and added one of my daughter's Handy smurf figurines.  And voila!

This is a fun snack to make with your kids and easy to store in a ziplock bag for munching later.  It's perfect for a smurfs themed party or family movie night!

SING Coming to Blu-ray March 21 #SingMovie #SINGaway #sponsored

3/17/17
I received a copy of SING on blu-ray to review.  All opinions are mine.

Ilumination, movie reviews, entertainment, family-friendly movies

From Illumination Entertainment, the studio that brought you THE SECRET LIFE OF PETS comes an animated comedy about finding the music that lives inside all of us.

SING stars Matthew McConaughey as Buster Moon, an eternally optimistic koala who puts on the world’s greatest singing competition to save his crumbling theater; winner Reese Witherspoon as Rosita, an overworked and underappreciated mother of 25 piglets desperate to unleash her inner diva; Scarlett Johansson as Ash, a punk rock porcupine with a beautiful voice behind her prickly exterior; and Taron Egerton as Johnny, a young gangster gorilla looking to break free of his family’s felonies.

SING is the musical comedy event of the year!

My family couldn't be more excited for the release of SING to blu-ray!    SING has many fun characters who each have a challenge to overcome to achieve their dreams.  My personal favorite was Rosita, the mom of 25 active piglets, who dreams of singing and dancing on stage effortlessly.  Many moms will relate to juggling kids, housework, and the day-to-day ins-and-outs of balancing life goals with family.

SING, movie reviews, giveaways

Illumination, Universal, entertainment, movie reviews

SING was nominated for a Golden Globe, and it's easy to see why.  From the plot line, dynamic characters, to the toe-tapping music, there wasn't a moment that didn't keep my kids' attention.
Universal Pictures, entertainment, movie reviews, Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Tori Kelly, Scarlett Johansson
On a family-friendly scale, there is the usual bit of crude humor/jokes that are in there for the adults and thus the PG rating.  (For example,Gunter wears a thong in one scene)   Nothing was too over-the-top.  My family was cracking up throughout the whole movie, especially at Gunter's silly antics.

There are some great life-lessons to draw from this film about hard work, determination, overcoming challenges and facing your fears.
movie reviews, giveaways
Here are two great quotes to sum up the themes of the film:

“Don’t let fear stop you from doing the things you love.”

“You know the thing about hitting rock bottom? There is only one way to go, and that is up!”
movie reviews, entertainment, family-friendly movies
There are many great bonus features including our personal favorites:

3 Mini Movies:  Gunter Babysits, Love at First Sight, Eddie's Life Coach

Music Videos:  "Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing-Tori Kelly
"Faith" - Stevie Wonder & Ariana
                                               Grande
"Set it All free" Scarlett Johansson

Our favorite mini movie was Gunter Babysits.  Gunter is hysterical as he takes on watching all 25 of Rosita's piglets for the evening!    My girls danced, sang, and begged to replay the music videos, especially "Faith".  The lyric videos are handy so you can sing along.  We will definitely have to download the soundtrack on iTunes to play in the car.  The music is upbeat and I love Stevie Wonder!

SING is funny, energizing, and heart-warming entertainment for the whole family!
