Today is International Women's Day celebrating strong women everywhere.  It's a day when you can spend time with your daughters and mothers, hug and support the women in your life, and maybe even binge watch movies that feature women empowerment.

Katniss Everdeen is one of those strong female heroines that shows courage and a never-give-up attitude in the face of adversity and tragedy.   Her character ignites women empowerment as a survivor and fighter in the critically acclaimed series based on Suzanne Collins' best selling trilogy.

Did you know that this is actually the first film with a female lead to top the annual box office since 1973?  And that The Hunger Games franchise earned over $2.9 billion at the box office worldwide?    Obviously, girl power has resonated with fans across the globe.

I have watched the series up through Mockingjay part 1 and am eager to see how it all ends (I haven't read the book series but my teen has).  Surprisingly, I have managed to keep from hearing or reading about spoilers!

Here's to strong women everywhere and strong female heroines!
