I received a copy of The Good Dinosaur for review purposes. All opinions are my own.
Disney Pixar's The Good Dinosaur is now available on Blu-ray Combo Pack, Digital HD and Disney Movies anywhere Feb. 23rd.
My daughter went with her daddy to see this while it was in theaters and she fell in love with Arlo!
About the Movie:
From the innovative minds of Disney•Pixar
comes a hilariously heartwarming adventure about the power of confronting and
overcoming your fears and discovering who you are meant to be.
The Good Dinosaur asks the question: What
if the asteroid that forever changed life on Earth missed the planet
completely, and giant dinosaurs never became extinct?
In this epic journey into
the world of dinosaurs, an apatosaurus named Arlo makes an unlikely human
friend. While traveling through a harsh and mysterious landscape, Arlo learns
the power of confronting his fears and discovers what he is truly capable of.
Bring home this
original story full of humor, heart, action and imagination, perfect for the
whole family!
BONUS:Digital HD*, Blu-ray Combo

THEATRICAL SHORT – Sanjay’s Super Team - Sanjay loves the world of cartoons and
comics, while his father tries to draw him into his Hindu traditions.
Reluctance quickly turns into awe-inspiring adventure as the boy embarks on an
amazing journey, returning with a new perspective they can both embrace.
TRUE LIES ABOUT DINOSAURS - We know – it’s preposterous to think
Apatosaurs spoke English. Learn more about what separates the fictional dinosaurs
of “The Good Dinosaur“ from what scientists know about real dinosaurs.
RECYCLOSAURUS - Pixar takes creative competition seriously. Maybe a little too
seriously. Watch as “The Good Dinosaur” crew competes to see which department
can create the best dinosaur ever…using only discarded items from the studio’s
“free table.”
THE FILMMAKERS’ JOURNEY - Finding your way from an idea to a film
takes a lot of exploration. Director Peter Sohn and his fellow filmmakers talk
about the challenging, inspiring, and unexpectedly emotional experience of
making “The Good Dinosaur.”
EVERY PART OF THE DINOSAUR - The filmmakers talk about the special
animation challenges of “The Good Dinosaur” – including figuring out how to
animate a dinosaur who’s really a boy, and a boy who’s got the spirit of a dog.
FOLLOWING THE T-REX TRAIL - Follow the filmmakers as they travel to a
working cattle ranch and meet the McKays, a close-knit family whose work ethic,
generosity, and stories inspired the T-Rex ranchers of the film.
COMMENTARY - Commentary from director Peter Sohn, story
supervisor Kelsey Mann, supervising animator Mike Venturini, director of
photography/lighting Sharon Calahan, and supervising technical director Sanjay
Bakshi.
DINO BITES - Montage of original animated pieces
produced to promote “The Good Dinosaur.”
HIDE AND SEEK - A short animated clip produced to promote “The
Good Dinosaur.”

idyllic introduction to the family farm is cut short when a savage predator
attacks the newborn Arlo. With an introduction by Director Peter Sohn.
oBuilding the Silo – An admiring Arlo is thrilled to follow

Director Peter Sohn.

Just Listen - Trace the development of the unique
soundscape of “The Good Dinosaur,” from the wilds of British Columbia as Sound
Designer Craig Berkey collects sounds, to the recording studio where Jeff and
Mychael Danna use instruments from around the world to create the music.
This is a beautifully animated film that my daughter has asked to watch over and over again. Her favorite scene is so visually amazing: when Arlo is afraid to walk out in the forest at night and his dad encourages him to look past his fears to "see the beauty on the other side." The fireflies dancing and lighting up around Arlo's tail just mesmerized my five year old!
(I'm sure that my nieces will enjoy this movie too, as fireflies are special to them and remind them of their daddy)
The theme of this movie is about facing fears and doing things you didn't think you could do. It is woven throughout the movie and is well done. We talk about being afraid and having courage quite often at home. It's also about friendship and has some happy moments as well as some sad ones. It will open up some discussions with your younger kids about some tough issues.
We also enjoyed the bonus features with deleted scenes. Our favorite was the theatrical short Sanjay's Super Team. Sanjay is conflicted between the world he lives in now and the traditions of his Hindu family. He dreams up imaginative super heroes based upon Hindu gods. We have some Indian neighbors and are interested in learning more about their traditions and understanding their culture. So it was great to learn a bit more about them!

He Named Me Malala, the story of young Nobel Peace
Prize winner Laureate Malala Yousafzai, will premiere commercial-free on Monday
February 29 on the National Geographic channel at 8:00 pm ET/7:00 pm
CT.
I have heard a bit about this inspirational girl in the news, but have not seen the documentary yet. It amazes me the courage that this teenager had in the face of such a scary situation! I am looking forward to finding out more about how she is making a difference for so many girls in her country and around the world.
About the Movie:
Rated PG-13 for thematic elements involving disturbing images and threats
HE NAMED ME MALALA is
an intimate portrait of Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Malala Yousafzai,
who was targeted by the Taliban and severely wounded by a gunshot when
returning home on her school bus in Pakistan’s Swat Valley. The then
15-year-old was singled out, along with her father, for advocating for
girls’ education, and the attack on her sparked an outcry from
supporters around the world. She miraculously survived and is now a
leading campaigner for girls’ education globally as co-founder of the
Malala Fund.
Acclaimed
documentary filmmaker Davis Guggenheim (An Inconvenient Truth, Waiting
for Superman) shows us how Malala, her father Zia and her family are
committed to fighting for education for all girls worldwide. The film
gives us an inside glimpse into this extraordinary young girl’s life –
from her close relationship with her father who inspired her love for
education, to her impassioned speeches at the UN, to her everyday life
with her parents and brothers. This is one documentary you will not want to miss. Don't forget to set your DVR's!
The National Geographic Channel (@NatGeoChannel) and 21st Century Fox
(@21CF) have partnered with the Malala Fund (@MalalaFund) to launch a
social initiative campaign to raise awareness for girls' right to
education and safe schools for every child.

I'm eagerly anticipating the release of Cold Shot, the first book in Dani Pettrey's Chesapeake Valor series! (I've previously highlighted/reviewed her books Sabotaged and Shattered)
If you like suspense stories, you will want to check out this local Maryland author. Read through the description and find out how you can win some awesome prizes and a copy of the book.
About the Book:
In college, Griffin McCray and his four best friends had their lives
planned out. Griffin and Luke Gallagher would join the Baltimore PD.
Declan Gray would head to the FBI, and Parker Mitchell would go on to
graduate school as a crime scene analyst. But then Luke vanished before
graduation and their world–and friendships–crumbled.
Now Griffin is a park ranger at Gettysburg, having left life as a
SWAT-team sniper when a case went bad. The job is mostly quiet–until the
day he captures two relic hunters uncovering skeletal remains near
Little Round Top. Griffin just wants the case to go away, but charming
forensic anthropologist Finley Scott determines that the body is
modern–a young social justice lawyer missing since spring–and all
evidence points to the work of an expert sniper.
When FBI agent Declan Gray takes over the case, past and present
collide. Griffin soon realizes he’ll need to confront some of the
darkest days of his life if he–and those he cares about–are going to
escape a downward spiral of murder that crosses continents.
Dani Pettrey is a wife, home-schooling mom, and the acclaimed author of the brand new romantic suspense Chesapeake Valor series, as well as the well-loved Alaskan Courageseries which includes her bestselling novels Submerged, Shattered, Stranded, Silenced, andSabotaged.

incorporates so many things she loves–the thrill of adventure, nail
biting suspense, the deepening of her characters’ faith, and plenty of
romance. She and her husband reside in Maryland, where they enjoy time
with their daughters, son-in-law, and super-adorable grandson.

I received Good Night, Little Love as a Tommy Mommy for review. All opinions are mine.
Board books are a favorite in our house because they stand up to active toddlers and (preschoolers). We read them at any time of day, but my children really enjoy stories at bed time. It helps them get relaxed and settled in for the night and is a great part of their bedtime routine.
Our latest bed time board book has been Good Night Little Love by Laura Neutzling. It has been the perfect story for my own little loves for Valentine's Day.
It's a sweet story about a mama bunny getting her little one ready for bed. Each page starts off with "Good Night Little Love" and then talks about what new adventures the next day will bring.
My girls love the soft illustrations and adorable bunnies from Anna Currey. The front cover has foil and glitter hearts and sets the tone for the book; it's all about love! And there is nothing like a mama's love for her children.
The simple rhymes and repetition is great for little ones as they prepare for bed time. It makes a sweet gift for ages 1-5, not only for Valentine's Day, but for any day of the year!

Our family is counting down the days until Zootopia opens in theaters March 4th!
The modern mammal metropolis of
Zootopia is a city like no other. Comprised of habitat neighborhoods
like ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown, it’s a melting pot where
animals from every environment live together—a place where no matter
what you are,
from the biggest elephant to the smallest shrew, you can be anything.
But when rookie Officer Judy Hopps (voice of Ginnifer Goodwin) arrives,
she discovers that being the first bunny on a police force of big, tough
animals isn’t so easy. Determined to prove
herself, she jumps at the opportunity to crack a case, even if it means
partnering with a fast-talking, scam-artist fox, Nick Wilde (voice of
Jason Bateman), to solve the mystery. Walt Disney Animation Studios’
“Zootopia,” a comedy-adventure directed by Byron
Howard (“Tangled,” “Bolt”) and Rich Moore (“Wreck-It Ralph,” “The
Simpsons”) and co-directed by Jared Bush (“Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero”).
Check out these latest clips so that you too can play them (over and over and over again) for your munchkins to enjoy.
And if your kiddos are as impatient as mine, you can print off some fun coloring sheets
and activity pages to keep them busy until Zootopia arrives!

AK can't get enough of Zootopia and I'm sure your kids will love these too!
