The Good Dinosaur Pumpkin Stencils & Free Printables #GoodDino

10/30/15
The Good Dinosaur from Disney Pixar is coming to theaters Nov. 25th.  The Attic Kid has seen the trailer on tv and can't wait for it to come out.  She loves learning about different kinds of dinosaurs and asking all kinds of questions about them.

Disney Pixar The Good Dinosaur

"The Good Dinosaur" asks the question: What if the asteroid that forever changed life on Earth missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct?  Pixar Animation Studios takes you on an epic journey into the world of dinosaurs where an Apatosaurus named Arlo (voice of Raymond Ochoa) makes an unlikely human friend. While traveling through a harsh and mysterious landscape, Arlo learns the power of confronting his fears and discovers what he is truly capable of.  Directed by Peter Sohn and produced by Denise Ream (“Cars 2”).

If you haven't carved your pumpkin yet, I have a cute Good Dinosaur pumpkin stencil you can use (just right click to download and print or click on the link below).  You can even add a green glow stick inside and make Arlo glow green!

10/27/15
In the spirit of Halloween and this year's upcoming Day of the Dead on November 1-2nd, we are revisiting the adventurous film The Book of Life and sharing some fun activity ideas with you.

The Book of Life

THE BOOK OF LIFE is a breathtaking animated comedy with a dazzling visual style unlike anything you’ve seen before. Torn between the expectations of his family and the desires of his heart, a young man named Manolo sets off on an epic quest that spans three spectacular worlds in order to reunite with his one true love and defend his village. Not your ordinary fairy tale, THE BOOK OF LIFE is a wondrous fantasy-adventure filled with magic, music and fun!

Day of the Dead

This Mexican holiday focuses on gathering family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died.

Some holiday traditions include building private altars called ofrendas, honoring those who have died using sugar skulls, marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed; and visiting graves with these items as gifts. Visitors also leave possessions of their dead loved ones at the graves.

Here are some activities inspired by The Book of Life that you can explore with your kids at home and learn more about this holiday.  There are also some Day of the Dead and Halloween party ideas.

Enjoy!

The Moodsters Feelings Flashlight {Holiday Gift Guide} #sponsored #themoodsters

10/23/15
I received a Moodster Feelings Flashlight and storybook as part of The Moodsters Ambassadors.  All opinions are my own.

Bedtime routines are so important with little ones.  We've always done the same nightly ritual:  brush teeth, get tucked in, a story, turn on the night lamp and noise maker, and say goodnight.   Lately my preschooler has been struggling.  She has suddenly decided that she can't sleep with just a night light and wants her closet light on.  That fear of the dark is powerful and we have been searching for ways to make it a little easier for her.

One of the latest toys from The Moodsters has made our bedtime ritual more fun and bed time a little less scary:  The Moodsters Feelings Flashlight and story book The Scary Sleepover.

We read The Scary Sleepover together before bedtime and talked about our fears.  She said she was afraid of the dark and scary monsters.  I reassured her that everyone has fears like that and it's okay.  We also talked about how we could make night time less scary.  She has her favorite stuffed animal to squeeze, the extra light, and mommy or daddy just a call away.

The Moodsters The Scary Sleepover & Feelings Flashlight

After reading, we took out the flashlight and turned out the lights.  The feelings flashlight projects each of the Moodster characters onto the wall or ceiling and you can push buttons to hear their voices.  It's a great tool to illuminate a little one's feelings and build emotional intelligence skills!  Plus, it distracted her from her fear of the dark and got her excited about turning off the lights!  (this probably isn't something we will be leaving in her room to play with all night and avoid sleeping)

The Moodsters Feelings Flashlight has really helped us talk about feelings more in a new and fun way!  It's a great tool for us parents too.  Both of my girls love the Moodsters and look forward to seeing what new toy will be coming next.  (we can't wait for the app!)

You can see a quick demonstration in our video below:

Paper Towns Blu-ray and Girls Night #PaperTownsInsiders #sponsored {Holiday Gift Guide}

10/22/15
I received a copy of Paper Towns as a Fox Insider.  All opinions are my own.

Paper Towns Blu-ray
After the phenomenal success of The Fault in Our Stars,  author John Green returns with another heart-warming tale in PAPER TOWNS, available on Blu-ray™ and DVD October 20th.

Paper Towns

The story focuses on Quentin, a high school senior who has been in love with his enigmatic neighbor Margo since childhood. After taking him on an all-night adventure through their hometown, Margo suddenly disappears--leaving behind cryptic clues for Quentin to decipher. The search leads Quentin and his quick-witted friends on an exhilarating adventure that is equal parts hilarious and moving. Ultimately, to track down Margo, Q must find a deeper understanding of friendship--and true love.

Paper Towns

Join rising stars Cara Delevingne and Nat Wolff in the breakout performances of their careers as they go on an epic journey of love and adventure.  For a limited time only, get your Paper Towns fan pack Blu-ray with collectible packaging including shareable sticky notes of inspirational quotes from the film and a U.S. map!

Paper Towns is now available on Blu-ray and DVD and is one of my Holiday Gift Guide picks.   Although I haven't seen this yet, I am a fan of The Fault In Our Stars.  This movie has an intriguing concept and would make a great movie night for Girls Night Out {or in}.

Paper Towns Girls Night Out

I haven't read the books by John Green, but this would be a good pick for your next book club too.  I am one of those people who likes to read the book after the movie to see how they differ.

Check out this Paper Towns Book Club Guide:

Paper Towns Book Club Guide

It isn't easy navigating the world of high school as a teenager.  Relationships with peers, romantic relationships, and learning about who you are; these are all classic themes.

While this may seem like a movie that appeals to a teen audience, it is also one that parents of teens can watch too.  Watch it with your teenager and it may open up some interesting conversations.  I've learned a lot about some of my son's high school experiences (and his friends) from sitting down and discussing movies like this with him.

The Buggy Before the Horse by Tricia Goyer {Book Spotlight} #amishfiction #sponsored

10/20/15
I received a copy of The Buggy Before the Horse book 3 in the Sugar Creek Amish Mystery series. All opinons are my own.

The Buggy Before the Horse Book 3 Sugar Creek Amish Mystery series

The latest title on my fall reading list is the 3rd book in the Sugar Creek Amish Mystery series:  The Buggy Before the Horse by one of my favorite authors Tricia Goyer.

If you find the Amish fascinating and enjoy a good mystery, you will want to check out this book.  It is the third in a series, but you don't have to read the other two to follow what's happening in the story.  I've just started reading it, but am enjoying it so far!

I love a good "who-done-it" and already am trying to figure out who the thief is.

About the Book:

As Thanksgiving approaches, Cheryl stumbles across a startling discovery: someone is sleeping in Naomi and Seth Millers’ winter buggy and helping himself to food from their farmhouse cellar. Could it be the same person who is stealing from businesses up and down Sugarcreek’s Main Street?

Despite Naomi’s insistence on extending the hand of hospitality to their unknown guest, when items are stolen from the Swiss Miss gift shop, Cheryl intends to get to the bottom of these mysteries.
While odd notes and other clues begin to surface, the list of suspects grows to include a troubled foster child, an Amish handyman, a homeless shelter volunteer, a young backpacker, and just about every other tourist passing through town. Can Cheryl catch the thief before the Millers fall victim to a more serious crime?

Home Alone 25th Anniversary Ultimate Collector's Edition Giveaway {Holiday Gift Guide} #HomeAloneInsiders #sponsored

10/13/15
I received a copy of Home Alone Ultimate Collector's Edition as a Fox Home Insider.  No other compensation was received and opinions are my own.

Home Alone 25th Anniversary
Get ready to ring in the holiday season as Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment celebrates the 25th anniversary of the biggest live-action comedy of all time with HOME ALONE: ULTIMATE COLLECTOR’S EDITION arriving on Blu-ray and DVD October 6.

This must have gift set features all five films packaged together for the first time in a collectible paint can full of limited edition movie memorabilia that will keep the whole family laughing including a McCallister Christmas ornament, Kevin’s battle plan for the Wet Bandits, his tarantula and a wanted poster of the thieves – Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern) – and more.

Additionally, a gift set featuring HOME ALONE and HOME ALONE 2: LOST IN NEW YORK will be available exclusively at Target and features both films on Blu-ray along with a warm and wearable reproduction of Kevin’s famous winter knit hat from the films.

Home Alone 25th Anniversary

It isn't the holiday season at our house without the annual tradition of watching holiday movies.  And one of my all time favorites is Home Alone!  I watched this when I was 14 and have watched the original film pretty much every Christmas since.  And now I have adopted that tradition with my kids.  It's a holiday classic with lots of laughs, angst, but most importantly, family love.

Home Alone Ultimate Collector's Edition

The Ultimate Collector's Edition celebrates the 25th anniversary (can you believe it's been 25 years?!) of Home Alone and contains all 5 movies and some extra memorabilia in a fun paint can.  If you're a fan of the movies, you'll know the significance of the fake spider, the wanted poster, Kevin's battle plan, and of course, the paint can!  I love the ornament with the classic #HomeAlonePose and can't wait to add that to our tree this year!

Home Alone Ultimate Collector's Edition

It's great to have all 5 of these movies together in one set:  Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (on DVD, Blu-ray and Digital HD) Home Alone 3, Home Alone: Taking Back the House and Home Alone: The Holiday Heist (on DVD) so you can watch them back to back or whenever you want!  Plus there are over 2 hours of extra features for even more fun.

Home ALone 25th Anniversary

I am partial to the first two movies since they have Macaulay Culkin.  I think he was the perfect embodiment of Kevin and they are the movies I grew up with.  The additional movies are good too but you just can't beat Macaulay Culkin in my mind.  The relationship between Kevin and his mom is so sweet and the family dynamics in the first two films really resonates with me.

Home Alone 25th Anniversary

And it brings up great conversations on what NOT to do around strangers and how to keep safe if your child does for some reason get left behind or lost.  The over-the-top heroics of Kevin make everyone in my family laugh out loud!  (though we also have to talk about how we don't do many of those things shown in the movie; kids don't try this at home!)
