The Longest Ride Date Night Recipes & More #InsidersLongestRide #sponsored

I received The Longest Ride items for a home date night as a Fox Insider.  All opinions are my own.


This past weekend Attic Guy and I had a fun The Longest Ride themed date night at home thanks to Fox Entertainment.  It's been a while since we have been able to kick back and relax and watch a romantic movie together so this was a nice treat!

We received a Longest Ride bag of goodies for the perfect date night including popcorn, seasonings, and the blu-ray.  

Once the kiddos were finally in bed, we prepared our snacks.  We were both a bit tired after a long day with the girls, so we kept it simple.  Attic guy made some Strawberry Daquiris in the blender, we microwaved our Orville popcorn bowls, added some delicious cheddar cheese seasonings and butter (I kept my plain because of my low-fat diet), and tried a flavor of Chex Mix we'd never had before.

Then it was time to kick up our feet and watch The Longest Ride.  (We didn't even clean up the toys.  You moms of little ones know how it is!)

I haven't read the book yet, so I didn't know the story line beforehand.  It has two love stories intertwined; one current and one from the 1940's during WWII.   Cowboys, bull-riding, romance, love and loss and art...I really enjoyed the plot and of course, it made me tear up like only Nicholas Sparks can do.  

It has a PG 13 rating but I personally wouldn't allow my teenager to watch it due to the pretty graphic "partial" nudity.  This probably would have been rated R when I was growing up.  It's definitely a movie for adults.

Synopsis:

Once in the comparably opulent Hamilton, Elizabeth and Jack are confounded by Jack’s ne’er-do-well brother and Elizabeth’s former suitor, Charles Kensington. But it is Elizabeth’s father, William, who drives a wedge between them when he suggests to Jack that Charles would be a better match for his well-bred daughter.

When Elizabeth needs to return home to help with her mother's illness, things become a whole lot interesting.  We see a new side to Elizabeth as her "city society girl" role becomes more apparent.  And her relationship with Jack becomes more complicated as Elizabeth is drawn back into a friendship with her former suitor Charles {classic love triangle, who will she choose?}    To add to the mix, Jack's brother comes into town and stirs up a little trouble. 

We also get to see the trial surrounding the mining disaster in full swing.  I enjoyed seeing a female lawyer representing the widows who has a lot of spunk and determination!  It reminded me of one of other favorite series Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman.  I love seeing women in that time period that bucked convention!

It's a great start to season 2 and I look forward to the release of more episodes to DVD so I can watch the season over again.  {Why do we have to wait so long for Season 3?  Sigh.}

Date night.  Two words that are so important when it comes to connecting with your significant other or spouse.  With busy work schedules, babies and kids, it can be tough to find time to have a date night.  Most of our dates are "date-night-in" since we usually don't have the funds for a sitter or family close by.  We also have to schedule our date night time for when the kids have gone to bed and there are no work obligations.  So we look forward to that precious time when it's just the two of us!
