Daddy Loves You So Much Board Book & Giveaway #TommyNelson #sponsored

I received a copy of Daddy Loves You So Much for review purposes.  All opinions are my own.

Daddy Loves You So Much from Tommy Nelson

Father's Day is coming up soon and what better way can your little one celebrate than to read a special "Daddy" book?  Daddy Loves You So Much from Tommy Nelson is a great choice for some father/child bonding!

This board book has soft and engaging illustrations for ages 0-4.  It shows baby animals cuddling with their daddies.  {Can it get any cuter?}

My four year old loves story time, especially with her daddy.  She is definitely a "Daddy's Girl."  This book shows different ways in which daddies spend time with their children:  reading, having snacks, prayers, and getting tucked in to bed at night.   It is easy for a younger child to relate to and gives a wonderful message of just how much their dad loves them.  This also can open up a discussion on how much their Heavenly Father loves them too!

AK loves this book because it combines two of her favorite things: daddy and cuddly adorable animals!  It's also a quick read before bedtime on nights that we're running late on time.  It'd make a great gift for your child to give to their dad for Father's Day.

McFarland USA Comes to Blu-ray 6/2 {Movie Review} #McFarland #sponsored

5/28/15
I received a copy of Disney's McFarland USA on Blu-ray for review.  All opinions are my own.

McFarland USA Blu-ray

Synopsis:
In the tradition of Disney sports movies comes “McFarland, USA” based on a true story of underdogs triumphing over tremendous obstacles. This heartwarming drama follows novice runners who strive to build a cross-country team under Coach Jim White (Kevin Costner) in their predominantly Latino high school. Everyone has a lot to learn about each other, but when Coach realizes the boys’ exceptional running ability, things change. Beyond their talent, it’s the power of family, commitment to each other and work ethic that transform them into champions — helping them achieve their own American dream.

I love a feel-good movie that is based on actual events.  McFarland USA tells the true story of a coach and a high school track team in the hispanic community of McFarland.  It is one of those underdog stories that shows how hard work, determination, and the support of family and community can bring about amazing achievements.

Kevin Costner McFarland USA
MCFARLAND USA / Disney© 2015

Kevin Costner has always been one of my favorite actors ever since I was in high school.  He brings charisma and depth to the characters he portrays.  He is very dynamic in this movie as a high school coach with problems of his own, but becomes a mentor who comes full circle and learns something from the teens he coaches.

The actors portraying the teens in the film also play convincing roles.  Each teen has their own set of challenges and comes from a lower economic background.  I couldn't imagine having to get up at the crack of dawn to go to a job in the fields before school and help after classes just to feed my family.  The fact that these teens did that every day and still managed to run track and graduate high school is incredible.

You will love finding out more about the actual people portrayed in the film and what they did later in life.

This is an inspiring family-friendly film to watch with your tweens and teens about accepting cultural differences, teamwork, friendship, finding your strengths, and not giving up when faced with challenges.

Disney's #Tomorrowland in Theaters Today 5/22 {No Spoilers Movie Review}

5/22/15
I attended a free screening for Tomorrowland.  All information provided by Walt Disney Studios and opinions are my own.

I remember watching the Jetsons cartoons as a kid and thinking how amazing it would be if the future had flying cars, food at the press of a button, and robot assistants that did your bidding.  I mean, what kid doesn't dream of fantastical and incredible things like that?  {I have to admit I'm a bit disappointed to become an adult and still not have the chance to ride in a flying car.}  Every person has their own vision of what they think the future looks like, kids and grown-ups alike.

Disney's Tomorrowland

Disney's Tomorrowland in theaters today {May 22} deals with not only a vision of the future, but brings a positive message too.

The movie starts off a little slow, but builds and draws you in.  You really don't know what's going on exactly, but you keep waiting and wanting to find out.   There are two different experiences that you are following; a teenage girl named Casey and a former boy genius turned adult named Frank.  Time skips around a bit from the present to the past back to the present but that is to be expected from the writer of "Lost."

Tomorrowland

Tomorrowland

Casey goes through some action packed moments on her journey along with Frank to discover what Tomorrowland is.  Her glimpses into Tomorrowland leave you wondering and wanting to know more.   The film only gives you a glimpse of this place that Casey sees, which just isn't enough.  I'm not sure if maybe there were some cut scenes or if that was completely intentional.  But in order to really be hooked into the vision, I would have liked to see more of the amazing technology in Tomorrowland.

Tomorrowland George Clooney
TOMORROWLAND / Disney© 2015

There are some really funny moments in the film and some endearing ones.  Actress Britt Robertson is very convincing as you see her transfer from one world to the next.  And can I say two words:  George Clooney.  He has great comic timing as Casey's "mentor".  I absolutely loved him!  But then again, it's George Clooney.  So of course you'd expect that, right?

Athena & Frank in Tomorrowland
TOMORROWLAND / Disney© 2015

You also see a couple of my other favorite actors Hugh Laurie and Tim McGraw (he is always a great father figure in movies!) and an adorable actress with freckles named Raffey Cassidy as mysterious Athena who helps both Casey and Frank on their mission.

TOMORROWLAND / Disney© 2015

The positive messages you can take away from this film are great for tweens, teens, and adults.  It really gets you thinking about your own perspective.  {What do you see the future looking like?  What are your hopes, dreams?  What can you do to make the world a better place?} Some of the message may be over a 7 year old's head.  I can't say too much because I don't want to spoil the premise of the movie for you.

On a family friendly scale, the action sequences aren't very violent or surprising for younger audiences.

Also, you should be aware that it is a rated PG Disney movie, so if you're surprised at words like "Son of a"(they leave off the rest)  and "Hell" in a Disney film, just a heads up for your younger kids that there is a little language.

This is definitely a fun sci-fi movie for your family to see and discuss together!

Disney's Tomorrowland

You've probably seen the movie trailer for Disney's latest film Tomorrowland which will be opening in theaters May 22nd.   While the trailer is a bit short on plot details, this movie looks like it will appeal to pre-teens and teens.  It has a pretty amazing line-up of stars including George Clooney and Hugh Laurie.  I want to see it based on that fact alone.

Synopsis:

From Disney comes two-time Oscar® winner Brad Bird’s riveting, mystery adventure “Tomorrowland,” starring Academy Award® winner George Clooney. Bound by a shared destiny, former boy-genius Frank (Clooney), jaded by disillusionment, and Casey (Britt Robertson), a bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity, embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space known only as “Tomorrowland.” What they must do there changes the world—and them—forever.
