Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey presents Built to Amaze in Baltimore #sponsored

3/28/14
I am a Feld Family Ambassador, and in exchange for my time and efforts in attending shows and reporting my opinion within this blog, as well as keeping you advised of the latest discount offers,  Feld Entertainment has provided me with complimentary tickets to Feld shows and opportunities to attend private Feld pre-Show events.  The opinions and views are my own.

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® presents Built to Amaze! is in town at the Baltimore Arena this week.  My family had the opportunity to attend the show opening night.  It was truly an amazing evening, despite the fact that we had to cut out early because the Attic Baby wasn't feeling well {unfortunately the Attic teen ended up sick later too}.

We were excited to go to our first circus media party before the show!  There were many photo ops with performers and clowns, as well as the Chick-fil-A cow who was also dressed for the occasion.  I wasn't sure how the Attic Baby would react to seeing the clowns close up this year {last time at the pre-show she wouldn't even look at them}.

She wasn't very happy with the "boy clown" who visited our table.  But he was a good sport and posed for a photo for me anyway.   She warmed up to the "girl clowns" and performers who came to visit our table.  It was great to see her interact with them and not be afraid; you never know how a three year old will react to clowns.  It was really nice to chat with the performers without the large crowd and the kids loved all the goodies!

From there we went out onto the floor for the pre-show.  This is my favorite part about Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey's circus. The kids can see performers up close, watch the elephant paint a picture, try on costumes, and have fun in a bounce house and it's all included in the price of your ticket!

My guys entered the "Guess how many cows" for a year of free Chick-fil-A and to win the elephant painting too {though neither won, they were excited about the contest}.

The show's theme "Built to Amaze" was all about construction from the costumes to the props.  The clowns even got in on the action.  I think they were my daughter's favorite next to seeing the elephants and horses.  Some of the clowns even came into the audience, so we went to see one of her favorite girl clowns again and got her program signed.  The clowns are really great with kids!

My teen's favorite part was probably watching the unicyclists play basketball and the girl shooting out of the canon {we miss seeing the motorcycle cage, that was his big favorite last time}.

The tigers are pretty impressive to me, as well as the acrobats.  The way they move their bodies, hang from the ceiling, cross tight-ropes on bicycles, and lift each other's body weight is truly impressive!

Though we had to leave earlier than we wanted, it was a wonderful night with colorful costumes, dynamic music, action-packed performances, and exciting animals; always something for everyone.   Visits to the circus are truly memorable and great family-friendly entertainment!  If you have the opportunity, I highly recommend you see Built to Amaze.

VeggieTales Veggies in Space: The Fennel Frontier {Giveaway} #sponsored

3/25/14
Disclosure: I received a copy of the movie to review.  No other compensation was received and all opinions are my own.

From kids to adults, there's something for everyone to enjoy when watching a VeggieTales movie.  The songs are catchy, the plot lines are creative, the jokes are funny, and there is always a great lesson with the story.

The latest movie Veggies in Space: The Fennel Frontier (released on DVD March 11) is no exception.  {Think along the lines of Star Trek and add some quirky veggies}

VeggieTales, Big Idea Productions

Boldly going where no Veggie has gone yet, Larry the Cucumber and Bob the Tomato, two of the most recognized home entertainment characters among moms of pre-schoolers, take on the heroic theme of space exploration in their new roles as Captain Cuke and Mr. Spork.

Join Captain Cuke (Larry the Cucumber) and his loyal first officer, Mr. Spork (Bob the Tomato), as they embark on an out of this world adventure to save the galaxy from a menacing space pirate. The surprising reason behind Luntar the Looter’s power-stealing antics lead the entire Veggie crew to learn a valuable lesson about sharing: if you have enough to spare, you have enough to share!

Sharing has been a topic that we deal with often on play dates and family gatherings.  Since little miss is home alone with me, she has all the toys to herself.  But when we have a friend over or get together with cousins, sharing is something she doesn't always want to do.  I like how it was presented and asks the question "WHY would you want to share?"

Veggies in Space
It isn't easy to share your favorite toys when you're three.  We talked about how it's nice to share with friends and it's something that God would want us to do.   That's one thing I love about VeggieTales movies; you can discuss the movie and reinforce the lesson afterward.  There's even a Family Discussion Guide you can download for free.

Veggies in Space
After watching the movie, we printed out some coloring pages and activities.  The Attic Baby loved making her own Paper Plate Planet and it was very easy to do.  We cut out the template, glued it onto a paper plate we had on hand, and then decorated it with cotton balls.

Big Idea Productions

There are also some fun recipes we'd like to try the next time we watch {VeggieTales are watched over and over again at our house} like Space Smoothies, U.S.S. Apple Pies, and Asteroid Popcorn.

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Minnie-rella Dreams Come True DVD

I received Minnie-rella on DVD along a viewing kit for review purposes.  All opinions are my own.

Disney Junior

The Attic Baby is in love with all things princess.  And what could be a better combination than her favorite Disney mouse Minnie and the princess story of Cinderella?

Every time this commercial came on Disney Junior, my Disney loving girl just couldn't wait to see it!  And we finally had the chance after the DVD release of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse:  Minnie-rella on Feb. 11th.

Synopsis:

Disney JuniorOur pals need to get Minnie a surprise present, so they keep her busy with plenty of chores to do at the Clubhouse.  Tired from so much work, Minnie falls asleep and dreams that she is MINNIE-RELLA!  Inspired by the fairy-tale of Cinderella, the story of Minnie-rella sparkles with music and fun!

Poor Minnie-rella needs a lot of help to get ready for Prince Mickey's Grand Ball!    With a wave of her wand and some "mouseke-doodle-lee-doo" magic, Minnie-rella's Fairy Godmother, Clarabelle, transforms an ordinary tomato into a magnificent carriage and Minnie-rella's raggedy dress into a beautiful gown that is perfect for a princess.  But Minnie-rella's enchanted dance with Prince Mickey at the ball must end when the spell is broken at midnight.  With our help, Prince Mickey finds the princess who fits into her lost glass slipper-Princess Minnie-rella!

The Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Minnie-rella DVD comes packaged with the full-length fairy tale, a Castle Playset, 3 additional Mickey Mouse Clubhouse episodes, and 10 Minnie's Bow Toons shorts.

Disney Junior

We also received a special viewing kit with our DVD including a Minnie Mouse plush, a Valentine's Day book, and a Mickey Mouse shaped cookie cutter.   Although these came after Valentine's Day, it was truly a special Minnie-riffic occasion!

The Attic Baby loved cuddling with her new friend Minnie while watching the fairy tale.  It was a sweet story for this little princess with catchy music and dancing.  No evil step-sisters or mischief making Lucifer the cat, but fun-loving Mickey Mouse Clubhouse characters and true Minnie style.  {Clarabelle makes an interesting fairy godmother!}

Little miss has asked to watch it over and over again!  {and that is no exaggeration, I think we've watched it about ten times already}  Mickey Mouse Clubhouse was one of the first shows she ever watched, and once a Minnie Mouse fan, always a Minnie Mouse fan, right?

Disney Junior

The castle playset was not easy for a 3 year old to manipulate, so I put it together for her.  She loved playing with the pieces and was excited to have Minnie-rella's castle, but this would be better suited for a child a little older because it is pretty fragile like paper doll sets.

We read the book Minnie's Valentine together after watching the DVD, and it was a huge hit, especially the stickers.  After all the excitement of the movie and the goodies, we didn't have a chance to cook together.  But we can't wait to have daddy home on Saturday morning to make Mickey Mouse pancakes!

Disney Junior

Though it released close to Valentine's Day, Minnie-rella would also make a great Easter basket gift for your little Minnie-loving-princess fan.  It has wonderful themes about friendship and making your dreams come true.

Where to Purchase:

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Minnie-rella is available at Amazon.com now for $14.96

Disclosure:  Thank you to Click Communications for sending us the Minnie-rella DVD and viewing kit for review.  All opinions are my own.

Shamrock Suncatcher Craft for Preschoolers {St. Patrick's Day}

3/14/14
St. Patrick's Day is one of my favorite holidays because, after all, it is my birthday and I'm Irish.  When I was in the classroom, I was always in cahoots with the leprechauns to make St. Patty's Day special.  Now that I'm at home with my preschooler, I thought I'd try a fun craft before the big day to add some cheer to what has been a gloomy and seemingly never-ending winter.

How to Make Shamrock Suncatchers

Materials Needed:

Wax Paper
Old green Crayons
Crayon Sharpener
Shamrock Template
Scissors
Old Cookie Sheet (can be lined with foil if you want to reuse it)
Sharpie or marker

Step One:

Fold wax paper in half (size depends on your cookie sheet).  Sharpen your green crayons and allow the shavings to go on one side of the wax paper.

Step 2:

Fold over the wax paper so that the shavings are trapped inside.  You can fold a seam along the outer edges in case any crayons ooze out when baking.  Place on your cookie sheet.

Step 3:

Put your cookie sheet in the oven at about 200 Degrees F for just a few minutes.  You'll want to turn on your oven light and watch the crayons as they melt (fun for your preschooler too!).

Step 4:

Wait for the wax paper to cool off and then remove from the cookie sheet.  Use the shamrock template you cut out and trace the shamrock onto the wax paper.  (depending on the size of the paper, you will get 3-4 shamrocks each batch).

Step 5:

You can hole punch your shamrock to hang with ribbon or yarn.  Or you can simply take some clear tape and fold it over to stick the shamrock to your window.

These Shamrock Suncatchers are lots of fun to make and display with your little Leprechaun!
