Rose turned her back on the man she loves after he assisted the Englisch during World War II—only to discover she’s an Englischer herself. Born in the midst of the hardships of The Great Depression, Rose grew up in Berlin, Ohio, in the arms of a loving Amish family. But she is overwhelmed by self-doubt when she learns that she was born Englisch and abandoned when her family moved West in search of work. Was she meant to be Amish or would she have been better off growing up with her own
kind—Englischers? When the man she loves leaves her behind, Rose is certain he left for good. Yet Rose discovers sometimes our greatest gifts are the ones we fear.

My Review:
Tricia Goyer crafts stories with characters that jump off the page and this one is no exception. While I didn't relate to Rose's grappling with her adoption and her identity, I definitely related to that feeling of not belonging. I sympathized with Rose and her struggle to figure out where her life path should take her. I also sympathized with the soldiers touched by war and dealing with PTSD. I enjoyed learning more about the Amish point of view and how they perceived war. My grandfather fought in WWII so this really appealed to me.
Rose & Jonathon's love story will tug at your heart strings. It's the perfect combination of love, faith and family. Just the kind of story you'll want to cozy up to with a cup of cocoa and a warm blanket in front of the Christmas tree.

Trying to figure out the right path in life can be difficult for many people. This book sounds so good to me.
ReplyDeleteI have read a lot of amish romance books, their my favorite to read. This one appeals to me because the amish are known to be peaceful people and very against any kind of war. I know this book will be one that I can't put down until I find out what happens.
ReplyDeleteI have met Tricia in person in Shipshewana, IN and she is such a sweet person!
ReplyDeleteI would love to read this book because it is so different from the normal Amish read. Such a life to have to go through...it seems no one wants her. I can certainly relate to some degree. I know this book is going to be a great read!
Blessings!

I just love Amish books. I read them so quickly because it's so hard to put them down.
ReplyDeleteGreat review! Tricia is an excellent author, and has a lot of experience regarding adoption. The additional topic of PTSD is also a very difficult situation to overcome. I'd love to read this book and see how these issues are used. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI am interested in how you will decide how she can decide if she wants to stay Amish or become English. Looks good.
ReplyDeletelove these books...great author
ReplyDeleteThe decision between two different life styles must be the most difficult decision especially when these styles are so far apart. I would love to read this book to see how the story unfolds.
ReplyDeleteI love Christmas! This book make me want to read this book so I can find out what decision Rose makes and how it all works out for her!
ReplyDeleteGreat review. I love reading Amish and Christmas books. I have this book on my wish list.
ReplyDeleteI love reading books about Christmas. The title just grabs my attention. Thanks for the chance to win this book.
ReplyDeleteI'm obsessed with Amish fiction. I've read almost the entire genre!! But I haven't come across this one yet.

I had read a blurb for this book before and thought then that it would be a great read. It seems that often we equate Amish and "Englisch" as two different 'ethnic' peoples. They definitely are two cultures, but I'm not sure I can fully understand why Rose would be so torn -- some who are not raised Amish can & have become Amish. And some raised Amish have left that 'faith'. I appreciated your review, as it reflects my thoughts as well. I still think it will be a great book to read!
ReplyDeleteTricia, I love your books. I am sure this one would be fantastic especially with the conflicts going on in Rose's life. I would love to read this book!
ReplyDeleteI love anything to do with a love story, its right up my reading alley.
