Sanus and Safe Kids TV Safety Initiative #sponsored

Disclosure:  Thanks to Sanus for providing a wall mount to review.  No other compensation was received and all opinions are my own.

Like many homes in the US, we own a flat panel tv as a great way to enjoy family time and entertainment.  However, a lot of parents are unaware of the safety risks that flat panel TVs pose for kids.

Safe Kids TV Safety Initiative

Did you know?

Due to increasing size and ultra thin designs, today’s flat panel TVs can easily tip over when bumped or pulled, toppling off of furniture and causing injury or even death.

SANUS, the leading designer and manufacturer of flat panel TV wall mounts, has partnered with Safe Kids Worldwide to bring this risk to attention.  By educating consumers on the risk of unsecured flat panel TV’s, SANUS and Safe Kids Worldwide offer safe solutions for families across the nation by reducing TV tip-over related injuries and fatalities.

A 2011 US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) report on flat panel TV safety revealed:

·         A child is killed every three weeks from an unsecured TV

·         Every 45 minutes a child visits an emergency room due to a TV tip-over related injury

·         Between 2000 and 2011, 215 fatalities have resulted from TV tip-over

·         An estimated 17,000 people each year, the majority of which are children, are treated for injuries from TV tip-overs

·         Reported cases have increased almost 25% from 2006  to 2010, and over the last 10 years, injuries have increased by 31%

These statistics are staggering and should make you think about how your tv is secured.   Our flat panel tv was securely screwed into a our entertainment stand, but we have thought a lot about mounting our tv so that it is out of reach of our curious tot.

We recently received a Sanus Vuepoint F180 Full-Motion Tv Wall Mount to review.  It allows you to adjust the angle to an 11 degree tilt for easy viewing and supports up to 130 lbs on a 47"-70" flat panel tvIts full range of movement allows smooth extend, tilt, swivel and roll motions up to 14" from the wall without the use of tools.

My hubby tackled putting this together since I am not very skilled in this area.  I think it took him about 2 hours total once he watched the video installation walk-through, laid out all his hardware, and planned out where to put the mount on the wall (it was his first time doing this so maybe it'll be quicker if you have more experience with this).

SANUS TV Mounting Tips:

Easy 1, 2, 3 installation with a wall template to ensure even placement

  • Online video walkthrough of simple installation available at any time
  • No additional tools necessary – all required installation hardware is included in package
  • Live customer support available 6 days a week

The final result looks great and we can see our tv from either side of the living room as well as from our kitchen breakfast nook.  I love that you can tilt it with just the push of a finger and slide it from side to side.   Since we have skylights in our living room, it's nice to be able to angle the tv so that there isn't a lot of glare.

But most of all, I'm glad that it is safely out of reach from our two year old.  We still have a baby gate around the entertainment stand and until our next project of hiding the cords is completed.

Securing your tv is an important safety message for all parents and Sanus makes it easy to do that.

Where to Buy:

You can find the Sanus Vuepoint for $149 at Walmart.
