Epic & Boogie Wipes @FHEInsiders @BoogieMom #sponsored

8/31/13
Disclosure:  I received Epic-themed Boogie Wipes items as a Fox Home Entertainment Insider.  No other compensation was received and all opinions are my own.

The Leafmen in EPIC continue to fight to save their world from the Boggans.  While in our world, It's Back-to-School time and that means moms are preparing to battle our version of the Boggans, coughs, colds, and boogies that our kids bring home.

A great weapon of choice during school season is Boogie Wipes powered by the Leafmen from Blue Sky Studio's 3D animated film, EPIC.

EPIC's Leafmen now appear on new, limited-edition packs of Boogie Wipes saline nose wipes, and bottles of Boogie Mist saline nasal spray.  This specially designed packaging commemorates M.K and the Leafman's heroic efforts to save the forest while celebrating the release of EPIC on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD.

We love Boogie Wipes at our house!  They are gentle saline wipes that clean up those snotty noses without being harsh or irritating {there's nothing worse than a sore, raw nose from constant wiping}.  I keep a pack on hand in my diaper bag and purse at all times.  They are not only for the little ones, but handy for grown ups too.

I recently joined their reward program called Boogie Bucks.  On specially marked packs, you will find a code to input on their site and can earn great rewards like more Boogie Wipes, the mascot Boogs, T-shirts and more!

The Prodigal Pig DVD #sponsored

8/30/13
Tommy Nelson

Disclosure:  I received a copy of  the DVD for review purposes as as a Tommy Nelson Mommy.  No other compensation was received and all opinions are my own.

Have you heard about the "On the Farm with Farmer Bob" Series?  We were recently introduced to it in this month's Tommy resource  The Prodigal Pig DVD.  This hour long video introduces kids to the story of the Prodigal Son in a funny and memorable way.

Porkchop, a pig with dreams to make it big in the music business, is given money from Farmer Bob to go to the big city and become a famous musician.  The friends that Porkchop makes in the big city don't turn out to be as nice as he thought.  When Jenny the sheepdog and some other animals save the day, Farmer Bob welcomes Porkchop home with open arms.

This fun story features the voice talents of some of my favorite artists: Amy Grant, Vince Gill and Randy Travis.  We love the great bonus features including a music video, cartoon based on the letter P, a read-along digital story book, and an option to view the DVD with Pop Up P's for literacy reinforcement and letter recognition.

My two year old loved the bluegrass music! Although this is a little above The Attic Baby's age level for her to grasp the concepts, I'm sure this will become a great learning tool as she grows.  It has great themes about friendship, forgiveness, and God's unconditional love.

Where to Buy:

The Prodigal Pig is available at the Faith Gateway site for $7.99.

Heart of the Country Movie Night #sponsored

8/27/13
Disclosure:  I received a DVD for review purposes. No other compensation was received and all opinions are my own.

Twentieth Century Fox
Available on DVD and Bluray August 20th, Heart of the Country is a love story starring country music singer Jana Kramer, Randy Wayne, and Gerald McRaney.  It is based on the novel by Rene Gutteridge and John Ward.

Faith (Kramer) and Luke (Wayne) have it all. Faith is a beautiful singer and Luke is an up-and- coming businessman. When their life together is shattered and she is forced to return home to the family she turned her back on years ago she must find the strength to love again.

Country’s hottest solo female singer, Jana Kramer, released her self-titled debut album last year to much critical praise, earning her the title of ACM’s New Female Vocalist of the Year for 2013, and has sold almost 1.5 million tracks to date. Kramer is country radio’s No.1 most-played debut artist of 2012 and just released her current single “I Hope It Rains,” to radio, along with her new video.

If you're looking to indulge in a good "chick flick", Heart of the Country is a good choice.  This PG film deals with multiple family dynamics:  marriage, father-daughter relationships and siblings.  It mirrors the story of the Prodigal son but kind of flips it.  Faith is a small town girl with dreams who goes off to the big apple and marries a businessman who gets himself into some trouble and winds up in jail.  She ends up returning home to North Carolina while her husband sorts out his legal trouble.  Both she and her husband have bridges to mend so you could say that they are both "prodigals" returning home to repair family relationships.

The father-daughter dynamic is very touching and may even cause you to tear up a bit.  Gerald McRaney is perfect in his role as the dad.  I hadn't heard of Jana Kramer until I saw this movie.  Her acting debut is very good as well, but I was really impressed with her beautiful singing voice (several of her songs are on the film's soundtrack).

The sequencing of the film contained a few too many flashbacks; I'm not sure if that is because it's a novel translating into a movie or because the book was written that way (I haven't read the novel).  Like a lot of shorter movies, the resolution was not as detailed or as satisfying as I would have liked it to be.  I don't want to give away any plot spoilers, but there were a lot of marriage issues that were too glossed over for my liking.

That being said, this movie is filled with good messages about forgiveness, honesty, love, dealing with grief, and repairing hurt relationships.  It got me interested in reading the novel as well as checking out more of Jana Kramer's music.  You can see an exclusive first look at the music video "The First and Last Time" as a special feature on the DVD.

If you want to treat yourself to your own "chick flick" movie night or a date-night-in, don't forget to enter the Heart of the Country DVD & Novel Giveaway! (ends Sept. 4th)
