The Documentary Narrated by Rebecca St. James Captures the Lives of 25 Abandoned and Orphaned Children Living on the Streets in India

MOTHER INDIA synopsis:

Winner of “Best Short Documentary” at the 2012 San Diego Christian Film Festival, Mother India is a compelling documentary that chronicles the adventure of 25 courageous orphans living as a family along the railway in Tenali, India. Mother India brings to light the struggles faced daily by over 31 million orphans in India and the challenge of rescuing them from a life of begging and addiction.
Mother India available on DVD April 23rd, is the work of first-time filmmakers David Trotter and Shawn Scheinoha.  “India is growing in both population and industry, but few people know that there are over 31 million orphans in this nation,” commented Trotter (Executive Producer, Director).

Each of these young lives is much more than a statistic. Every one of them has a name, a face and a story.” Scheinoha (Executive Producer) added, “We’re not out to just tell a tragic story. We’re focused on raising awareness and changing lives.”

Children.  They are a precious gift and one that should be cherished and nourished.  Unfortunately, not all children are treated that way.  This documentary reveals a horrible and sad reality in India through their eyes.  When you look into the eyes of these precious orphans describing the unthinkable, you can't help but be moved down to your core.

Children as young as 3 years old living on the streets forced to beg for money just to get a little food.  Some addicted to drugs to numb themselves from the pain of being alone and the abuse that they have suffered.  Some who have lost limbs, lost fingers, living with HIV and no medical care.  It's unbelievable!

I was not aware of the plight of so many orphan children in India until I saw this film.  It tugged at my heart strings.  The plight of these children angered me both as a parent, a Christian, and as a human being.  And it brought me to tears.  I was touched by the hope these two men brought to these kids and the success they had in finding a home for two of the youngest with Harvest India.  And I know you'll be touched and moved to action too.

  Ways YOU can help:

  1. Sponsor an Orphaned Child
  2. Spread the Word Online
  3. Serve with Organizations Helping Orphans in India.

This is an important film to show to your friends, church group, Sunday School class, or young adult group to inspire them to get involved.  (This deals with mature issues so I would not recommend it to younger age groups)
