* Grab your current read
* Open to a random page
* Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)

My Teaser:

"Anger, sadness, longing, mixed with a hint of joy that Mem no longer faced sickness or pain.  Yet when they lowered Mem's coffin into  the hole in the ground Lydia's knees trembled and her stomach turned.  The blue sky and green of the trees faded to gray and the kapps and faces of those around her blurred."

Cuddle Barn's Animated Toys {Giveaway} #sponsored

4/25/13
Disclosure:  I received a Conductor Cody from Cuddlebarn for review purposes and they are providing the giveaway prize for one of my readers.  No other compensation was received and all opinions are my own.

Cuddle Barn, stuffed animals, gifts
Cuddle Barn has added some new cuddly friends to their spring line up.  Paddy, Peak A Bunny, Gerry and Diva Debbie are sure to bring lots of smiles with their singing cuteness.  We've enjoyed Talking Tom and the Attic Baby was very excited when new friend Conductor Cody arrived!

The Attic Baby had her first train ride at the zoo recently and was thrilled with the "choo choo."  As a matter of fact, she probably would have stayed on the train if they let us.  I was surprised that she enjoyed it so much.  Her little buddy also adores trains too, so he arrived with perfecting timing for her friend's 2nd birthday.

Conductor Cody is an adorable animated bear who sings "I've Been Working on the Railroad".  He's dressed in striped overalls, a matching hat, a bandana and holds an attached soft train.

The battery compartment (including an on/off switch) is on his bottom. You can turn him off and on whenever you wish and save on battery life when not in use.

Cuddle Barn, animated plush, toys, gifts

The Attic Baby loved hugging Cody and watching him sing.   We knew he would make the perfect gift for her train loving friend's birthday.  And we were right; he was quite a hit at the party!

Cuddle Barn has a great selection of cuddly animals, each one with its own song.  These make great gifts for any occasion.

Where to Purchase:

Conductor Cody is available in the Cuddle Barn Store for $22.99

You can save 5% off your purchase at Cuddle Barn through April 30th when you use this code:  SPRING13 (plus free shipping within the continental US)

The Documentary Narrated by Rebecca St. James Captures the Lives of 25 Abandoned and Orphaned Children Living on the Streets in India

MOTHER INDIA synopsis:

Winner of “Best Short Documentary” at the 2012 San Diego Christian Film Festival, Mother India is a compelling documentary that chronicles the adventure of 25 courageous orphans living as a family along the railway in Tenali, India. Mother India brings to light the struggles faced daily by over 31 million orphans in India and the challenge of rescuing them from a life of begging and addiction.

Mother India available on DVD April 23rd, is the work of first-time filmmakers David Trotter and Shawn Scheinoha.  “India is growing in both population and industry, but few people know that there are over 31 million orphans in this nation,” commented Trotter (Executive Producer, Director).

Each of these young lives is much more than a statistic. Every one of them has a name, a face and a story.” Scheinoha (Executive Producer) added, “We’re not out to just tell a tragic story. We’re focused on raising awareness and changing lives.”

David Trotter, Shawn Scheinoha

Children.  They are a precious gift and one that should be cherished and nourished.  Unfortunately, not all children are treated that way.  This documentary reveals a horrible and sad reality in India through their eyes.  When you look into the eyes of these precious orphans describing the unthinkable, you can't help but be moved down to your core.

Children as young as 3 years old living on the streets forced to beg for money just to get a little food.  Some addicted to drugs to numb themselves from the pain of being alone and the abuse that they have suffered.  Some who have lost limbs, lost fingers, living with HIV and no medical care.  It's unbelievable!

I was not aware of the plight of so many orphan children in India until I saw this film.  It tugged at my heart strings.  The plight of these children angered me both as a parent, a Christian, and as a human being.  And it brought me to tears.  I was touched by the hope these two men brought to these kids and the success they had in finding a home for two of the youngest with Harvest India.  And I know you'll be touched and moved to action too.

  Ways YOU can help:

  1. Sponsor an Orphaned Child
  2. Spread the Word Online
  3. Serve with Organizations Helping Orphans in India.

This is an important film to show to your friends, church group, Sunday School class, or young adult group to inspire them to get involved.  (This deals with mature issues so I would not recommend it to younger age groups)

Where to Purchase:  Mother India is available on DVD at Amazon.com or MotherIndiafilm.com

Meal times can sometimes be a challenge with toddlers.  Besides picky eating habits, The Attic Baby can be fussy about what tools she uses.  Sometimes she wants her imonster dish and sometimes she wants a bowl like mommy's so she can be a "big girl".   I change what dishes I use often to keep things interesting but also to allow her some choices.

toddler mealtime

The Wacky Ware Feeding Set is great because it has a plastic bowl that is not only microwave safe, but also has a lid for storing.  It's convenient to heat up and store leftovers all in the same container.  Plus I can store dried cereal, crackers or other snacks and pop it in the diaper bag for car rides or day trips.  And its bright colors match the easy grip fork & spoon set we already have.

We use the bowl and fork/spoon set often.  It is just the right size for little hands!  The set is durable, BPA Free, and top rack dishwasher safe.

You can find the Wacky Ware feeding set on Diapersetc.com and at various retailers.

4/16/13
I Love being a Tommy-Mommy Disclosure:  I received a copy of Prayers for Girls for review purposes as as a Tommy Nelson Mommy.  No other compensation was received and all opinions are my own.  For more info. see my Disclosure Policy.

My blog readers know how much I love reading and supporting quality literature for children.  I'm very excited to let all of you know that I've been selected as a Tommy Nelson Mommy!  I'll be sharing some wonderful children's books, movies, and other resources from Thomas Nelson that will uplift and encourage you in raising your children in a Christian environment.

As a Tommy Nelson Mommy, I'll be receiving products to review and host giveaways each month.  For April, I have a wonderful book for the sweet little girl in your lifePrayers for Girls.

Thomas Nelson, toddler books, Christian gifts

This padded board book introduces little ones to the concept of prayer.  It has a side carry handle, colorful illustrations that appeal to toddlers and preschoolers, and rhythmical text.  The message is simple:  children can talk to God as a friend anywhere at any time.

Thomas Nelson, Christian gifts, toddler books, prayer

The Attic baby is quite the little reader.  She loves sitting down to read this book with me (and by herself)!  I like that it's short enough to keep her attention and explains prayer on a level she can understand.  We often talk about friends; she is learning how God is a friend that loves her and wants her to talk to Him daily.  She is just learning to pray at meal times, and as she grows, will hopefully make prayer a part of her nightly routine.

Thomas Nelson, Christian gifts, prayer

Don't have a girl?  There's also a book geared towards that special little boy in your life: Prayers for Boys.

Both books make an excellent addition to your home or church library.

Prayers for Girls and Prayers for Boys are available on the Thomas Nelson Website for $6.99.

One reader will win their choice of either a Prayer for Girls or a Prayer for Boys book!

THE BIBLE on Blu-ray #ad

4/12/13
Disclosure: I received a copy of THE BIBLE Series on Blu-ray for review purposes. No other compensation was received and all opinions are my own. For more info. see my Disclosure Policy.

Roma Downey, Mark Burnett, The History Channel, Christian mini-series
Roma Downey, Mark Burnett, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, HISTORY Channel, Christian movies
From Executive Producers Mark Burnett (The Voice, THE BIBLE — an epic 10-hour miniseries debuting on History® March 3, and coming to Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD April 2 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.
Survivor) and Roma Downey (Touched by an Angel) comes THE BIBLE — an epic 10-hour miniseries debuting on History® March 3, and coming to Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD April 2 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.

Featuring hours of never before seen behind-the-scenes footage and making-of featurettes in a stunning high bit rate HD transfer and immersive 5.1 audio, THE BIBLE is the must-own Blu-ray and DVD event of the year. The Blu-ray and DVD exclusively feature an all-new cut of the miniseries featuring more of the stories you know in ways you’ve never seen.

The four-disc Blu-ray and DVD set dives deeper into the making of the series and features a behind-the-scenes look at how the groundbreaking docudrama came together. Interviews with producers, directors, and cast illustrate creative collaboration on-set and off and show how the remarkable Moroccan scenery was transformed into the world of the Bible.

When they describe THE BIBLE miniseries as epic, it is definitely worthy of that title.  It's a monumental task to bring viewers through the vast history of the Bible from creation to Christ!  There are many movies that have tried to bring the Bible to life, but this mini-series is definitely on a grand scale.

During its run on tv, THE BIBLE propelled HISTORY channel to #1 in all of television from 8-10PM Sunday nights with 95 million cumulative viewers.  Amazing!

It is a bit odd to hear a Scottish brogue on Noah and to hear other actors with European accents play Middle Eastern people.  But, if you look past some of the more awkward moments and look at the content, it is very captivating.

Roma Downey, Mark Burnett, HISTORY, Christian movies

I was especially moved by the New Testament episodes.  The actor who plays Jesus feels genuine; his soft spoken words and gentle mannerisms are just what you might imagine Jesus to be.   From his birth, the crowds following him, the disciples spending time with him to the cross scene, you feel as if you are on a journey along with Jesus.

Roma Downey, Mark Burnett, HISTORY, Twentieth Fox Home Entertainment, Christian movies

My teenage son was skeptical when he saw that it was a History Channel series; he thought that it would be a boring documentary.  We weren't able to watch all the episodes on tv when they aired. But we've been watching many of the episodes together over the past week and it's really captured his attention.

THE BIBLE will definitely open up dialogue and engage people in conversation.  I think it's a great tool to familiarize people with the Bible and get them thinking:  Did these events actually happen the way it was portrayed?  What does the Bible actually say?   What do I believe?  It certainly has sparked some good conversations with my teenager.

There are some very intense and often violent scenes throughout the series I don't want to give anything away for those who haven't watched, but it is definitely not for younger children.   There were even moments that I as an adult was a bit taken aback.  I recommend ages  13-14+ for those reasons.
