Pond's Luminous Line #ad

3/30/13
Disclosure:  I participated in this campaign for One2One Network. By posting, I am eligible for incentive. I received product to facilitate my post, but all opinions stated are my own.

Luminous.  What does that word bring to your mind?  When I think of luminous, the words that come to my mind are healthy, happy, and smiling.   Some things that make me feel luminous: spending time walking through the park with my family, bike rides in the warm sunshine, and most recently a visit to the zoo for the first time with my two year old.  These things make me feel good on the inside, and when you feel good on the inside, you look better on the outside too!

skin careGood skin care is also an important factor to feeling luminous.  POND'S new Luminous line aims to keep your skin looking at its best all day.  It includes Wet Cleaning Towelettes, moisturizer, and skin cleansers to brighten dull skin.

skin careskin careI love using the Daily Exfoliating Cleanser in the morning.   It contains Kaolin clay and makes my face really smooth without leaving it feeling dry. ( I'm not a big fan of its floral perfumey scent, but it isn't a harsh smell.)  I alternate that with the Cream Cleanser on days I don't need exfoliation.  Both are hypoallergenic and dermatologist tested and neither feel harsh on my sensitive skin.

skin care, moisturizer
Before putting on my foundation,  moisturizer with SPF is a must.  POND'S Luminous Moisture with SPF 15 wasn't quite enough moisture for me.  It's light and I think I need something a bit thicker to help my very dry skin.

skin care, make up removalMy favorite part of the Luminous Line is definitely the Wet Cleansing Towelettes.  These little wonders are perfect at the end of a long day when all I want to do is fall into bed.  It hardly takes a minute to wipe off all the make-up, dirt, and unknown substances my toddler may have stuck to my face.  These are awesome for tired moms!

Supermodel and actress Molly Sims is partnering with POND's to help women realize that great skin can help you feel more luminous.  Together, they are launching The POND’S® 30-Day Luminous Photo Challenge.

This is a 30-day photo sweepstakes featuring daily challenges to inspire women to share photos of their happiest, most radiant moments. From March 4 through April 2, you can upload pictures to the POND’S® Facebook page or share via Twitter or Instagram by using the hashtag #LuminousEffectThere are 30 prizes including a $500 Walmart Gift Card!

Molly Sims' tips for looking luminous:

  • Never go to bed without washing your face
  • Start the day off with green juice for energy and an exercise routine to enhance your complexion
  • Tame stress to look your best
  • Moisturize with SPF to protect against skin-damaging rays
  • Exfoliate your face, body, even your lips for great circulation and even skin tone

What makes you feel luminous?  Do you have any great skin care tips to share?

A Night at the Circus in Baltimore #ad

3/29/13
Disclosure:  I am a Feld Family Ambassador, and in exchange for my time and efforts in attending shows and reporting my opinion within this blog, as well as keeping you advised of the latest discount offers,  Feld Entertainment has provided me with complimentary tickets to Feld shows and opportunities to attend private Feld pre-Show events.  The opinions and views are my own.

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® presents DRAGONS has come to Baltimore this week.  My family had the opportunity to attend the show opening night.  It was an action-packed evening of incredible performances and amazing talent!

One of our favorite parts of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus is the pre-show.  We were able to get down on the floor with the performers and see some of the animals up close.  They had stations where you could try on costumes, get your own clown nose, and even a bounce house!

circus, Baltimore, First Mariner Arena

We first visited the clowns, but the Attic Baby wasn't too certain about them.  She hid her face and didn't want to interact with them much, which I expected since she's never seen them up close before.

We then sat down to watch various performers in the ring.  It was great having a front row seat to watch the clowns, dancers, and the Shaolin Warriors (my son's favorite performers).

Shaolin Warriors

And of course, you can't go to the circus without trying on a clown nose!  They had a table full of them for any one who wanted them.

We weren't able to get over to the painting elephant, since there was a wall of people between the ring and us.  But we have seen the elephant paint before; it's pretty neat to watch up close!

After the pre-show, we went to find our seats.  We were located up in the highest level on the end.   We were unable to see the screens from that angle, so we asked if we could move down to empty seats where we had a bit of a better view.

The theme of DRAGONS was woven throughout the show, even into the funny spoofs of the clowns.  The Shaolin Warriors captured my teen's interest the most, while the music and animal performances had my two year old's attention.   She especially loved the elephants!   They really put a lot of thought into the show to make it really enjoyable and geared toward all ages.

circus, Baltimore

I like that they give you an intermission so you can stretch your legs, take a bathroom break, or get a snack for your kids.  It definitely helps with little ones!

One of the highlights was seeing the Torres family on motorcycles in the Globe of Steel.  It's amazing to watch them fit eight motorcycles into that tight space and not crash into each other!

The other was seeing the female acrobats inside these round bubble-like eggs; they actually opened and did splits while inside them.   It was a bit difficult at the height we were at to get a good zoomed photo of them, but it was really amazing to watch!

circus, Baltimore

The big dragon came out at the very end of the show during the wrap-up music.  I had been wondering if it might be scary for my daughter, but since we were at a distance and she was tired, it wasn't an issue.  It made a great finale for a very entertaining and exciting night!

ProFlowers Spring Blooms #ad

3/28/13
Disclosure:  I received these flowers for review purposes.  No other compensation was received and all opinions are my own.  For more info. see my Disclosure Policy.

Spring is here.  Well, sort of.  The weather around Maryland has been very strange.  We've fluctuated from nice and sunny in the 50's to cold and cloudy in the 40's.  There have even been predictions of snow at various times.   We got about 3-4 inches the other day!

While spring is unpredictable and a bit gloomy, I thought it'd be nice to have some cheerful flowers to brighten up the house and give us a little taste of spring.

Recently, hubby picked out a Birthday Pop bouquet from ProFlowers for me for my birthday.

ProFlowers has a 7 day freshness guarantee on every order and are hand picked and sent directly.  We have never ordered from ProFlowers before so we weren't sure what to expect.

The flowers arrived on my doorstep mid-afternoon on the day hubby selected for delivery.  (I asked him to choose a week day delivery as weekends and special time requests have an additional fee.)  You will probably need to select a day when you will be home and can get them right off your porch so they won't be subjected to weather.

They arrived in great condition, carefully wrapped in plastic with their stems in a wet/green base.  The round vase was not cracked or chipped and was protected by packing bubbles.

flowers, spring, gifts

I was surprised that the flowers arrive in bud form and were not yet in bloom.  The instructions said to cut the stems, put in the special plant food in room temperature water, and repeat the process again in 3 days.

ProFlowers, spring, Easter gifts

I followed all of the instructions.  It took several days for these flowers to bloom; the purple flowers bloomed pretty quickly but the roses did not open as fast.  Unfortunately, half the roses in the first bouquet did not bloom within the 7 day period.  This was pretty disappointing for a $34.99 bouquet (not including the $9.99 for the vase and the shipping cost).

Birthday Pop Bouquet after 3 days

Customer service was easy to deal with over the phone.  The rep was very understanding and sent me another bouquet quickly.  So I tried the process over again.

The second bouquet was more successful than the first.  Most of the flowers bloomed after three days.  When I changed the water and added the plant food on the third day, many of the roses were open.

The orange roses, however, never fully opened like the pink ones did.

ProFlowers, spring, easter gifts

While their customer service is great, I didn't have the best experience with my flowers.   As you can see, they didn't resemble the beautiful bouquet in the website photo.

Maybe others have had more success than I had with the Birthday Pop bouquet.  I don't know.  If you're looking for a bouquet that is in bloom on the day that you receive them, then this might not be for you.  I can't say that this process has made me a fan.  I prefer my flowers to be pretty and in bloom right when I get them.

Have you had a similar experience with flowers?  Where do you usually purchase bouquets for friends or family?

Carmex Healing Lotion and Healing Cream #ad

3/25/13

Disclosure:   I received these products for review purposes as part of the Carmex Blog Squad.  No other compensation was received.  All opinions are my own; your experience may vary from mine.

Spring is here, but the weather has been all over the place; sometimes warm, sometimes cold and very unpredictable.  Today, we actually had about 3-4 inches of snow.  I am still suffering from dry winter skin.  My hands have especially taken a beating because of all the hand-washing due to The Attic Baby's latest cold.  They have been so dry at times that I have to continuously apply lotion to keep them from cracking.

The Carmex kit that recently arrived was perfect timing.  I received Carmex Healing Cream and Healing Lotion (along with a warm hoodie to cozy up with during this chilly weather).

The lotion is great for every day use while the cream is for really dry areas like heels, elbows, and feet.  I have been applying the lotion throughout the day to my hands.   It has a subtle scent that my hubby says is similar to butter cream.  I'm not sure how to describe the scent; it doesn't quite remind me of food but it is a pleasant smell.  My favorite aspect of the lotion and cream is that it doesn't feel greasy or thick; it leaves your skin feeling soft and light.

Thanks to Carmex, this mom's dry winter skin will (hopefully) soon be a thing of the past.

You can find Carmex Healing Lotion and Healing Cream at various retailers for about $4.99 each.

Follow Carmex on Facebook for coupons and fun giveaways!

SuperPretzel PretzelDogs: Get Your Snack On #ad

Disclosure:  I received three boxes of pretzels and coupons for review purposes.  No other compensation was received and all opinions are my own.  Your experience may differ from mine.  For more info. see my full Disclosure Policy.

The guys in my house love to snack.   One of their favorite snacks is pretzels; soft pretzels, crunchy pretzels, they love them all.  We tried SuperPretzel Sweet Cinnamon soft pretzels a while back and they were a huge hit.  So when we were given the opportunity to try out the new PretzelDogs, the guys were all over it.

SuperPretzel, snacks, appetizers

SuperPretzel PretzelDogs are bite-sized hotdogs inside a toasty pretzel crust.  They come in Original or Cheddar Cheese varieties; my hubby's favorite were the cheese.

SuperPretzel, snacksWhat I like about these is that they are so easy to pop into the oven or the microwave.  They only take a few minutes!  (We prefer toasting them in the oven so they are not too soft.)  You can add your favorite dipping sauce like spicy mustard or even some good ol' Country Bob's (my hubby is a huge fan of dipping pretty much everything in Country Bob's).

You'll need more than one box to feed your hungry guys.  There are 12 to a box so we heat up two at a time.  Soft and salty goodness on the outside, hotdog on the inside.  It makes a great snack or appetizer for any occasion, but most especially for watching your favorite sport!

SUPERPRETZEL PretzelDogs are available in the frozen snacks section of your local retail store and supercenters. You can head on over to the SuperPretzel website to find a store that carries them in your area.

My Review/Thoughts:

There are some books that grab you from the very beginning, and this is most definitely one of them.  From the opening scene, I was hooked.  This is more than just a "who done it" story.  It is a wild ride of intense action, suspense, and romance too set in the beautiful backdrop of Alaska.

The characterization is very strong in this story.  I think it's important for a writer to help you relate to the characters and their weaknesses, especially in the genre of Christian fiction where characters can sometimes be too "perfect" to be believable.

I related to Landon a lot because of his trust issues.   Landon keeps people at a distance because he's been hurt by someone he loved.   I think we've all been hurt at some point or another by someone we love and trust.  But those deep hurts can be really hard to get over and cause us to put up walls.

"All of Landon's comments about those closest to a person having the ability to harm them the most suddenly made perfect sense.  He knew the disappointment and disillusionment firsthand.  He'd lived through the betrayal of someone he loved letting him down in the worst possible way, of someone he loved injuring him."  pg. 277

The relationship between Piper and Landon has some history that is unknown in this book.  Since it's the second book in the series, I'd like to go back and read the first to find out what that history is.  Regardless, it doesn't hinder being able to read this novel as a stand-alone title.  You will find yourself rooting for their relationship and hoping they can overcome the obstacles they face.  And that they can make it through this murder investigation alive.
