Reading is one of my favorite hobbies and I have tried to instill a love of reading in my children. My son in particular has grown up with weekly visits to the library. He likes to read fiction primarily, so I am often searching for interesting non-fiction that will grab his attention.
Ripley's Believe It or Not! Download the Weird is right up a teenager's alley. This all-new collection of unbelievable and just plain WEIRD stories will definitely pique their interest. Just looking at the holographic cover will get your brain wondering what is inside this book!
It is jam-packed with crazy facts, lists, true stories and interviews.
Here is just a taste:
*Meet the world's oddest couple: he swallows swords, hedge trimmers and umbrella handles while she hangs upside down and lifts lead weights by her hair!
*Learn why a California man has experienced more than 950 violent car crashes.
*See tourists risk life and limb to get their picture taken with an 18-foot-long crocodile!
Since I'm a history buff, my particular favorite is the special pullout section with weird Titanic facts. Did you know that each of the Titanic's engines was the size of a 3 story house?
There's also a bonus feature to Download the Weird. The brand new Ripley's Believe It or Not! app allows hidden content in the book to COME ALIVE. All you have to do is point a smart phone, Android phone, or advanced iPod at the special oddSCAN logos in the book and see exclusive videos and images. I wish that I had one of these gadgets to access this feature, because it sounds pretty neat!
The new Ripley's Believe It or Not! app is FREE and available through iTunes and Google Play.
Looking to motivate a reluctant reader or inspire curiosity in your teen? Ripley's Believe It or Not! Download the Weird makes a unique and fun gift!
