Snow White & The Huntsman Extended Edition

In this spectacular action-adventure, Kristen Stewart (Twilight) is Snow White, the only woman in the land fairer than the evil queen Ravenna (Oscar® winner Charlize Theron). Ravenna wants nothing more than to destroy her young rival, but she doesn’t know that Show White has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) the queen dispatched to kill her. Together with a handsome prince (Sam Claflin) enchanted by Snow White’s beauty and power, they assemble an armed force to recapture the kingdom.

This breathtaking new vision of the legendary tale from Joe Roth, the producer of Alice in Wonderland and acclaimed commercial director and state-of-the-art visualist Rupert Sanders is, in the words of Shawn Edwards, Fox-TV, “A film that soars with creativity, stylistic genius and amazing battle scenes.”

Movies have gotten really high tech lately.  This combo pack includes the theatrical version of the movie and the extended version not seen in theaters.  But it also has a digital copy compatible with your iPod, iPhone, and iPad and UltraViolet the new way to instantly stream and download to your tv, computer, tablet or smart phone.  In other words, it's got you covered on a wide array of devices.

This is a much darker version of the fairy tale that I remember as a child.  You won't find any princesses dancing and singing here.  But it does appeal to your older teen crowd with its action sequences and intense story line.

I think Charlize Theron was a perfect evil queen with just the right touch of beauty and allure to make you think she's nice but deep down, she's down right selfish.  It's not an easy character to pull off, but I think she was wonderfully creepy.  Kristen Stewart brought a different side to Snow White; she showed vulnerability and strength at the same time.   There is a bit of a unique love story twist in this movie that I didn't expect.  But it does leave you wondering if they are thinking about a follow-up sequel to find out if this fairy tale ends "happily ever after."

I'd recommend this movie for your older teens.  It has fighting sequences similar to Lord of the Rings type action.  It also has a scene where the queen is taking a milk bath and comes up out of the tub covering herself, but it is suggestive.    I enjoyed both the extended version and the theatrical version, but you may want to watch both of them to compare the differences.   It has some great lessons about facing your fears, valuing character over mere outer beauty, and standing up to wrong no matter how difficult.

Snow White & The Huntsman released on September 11th.
