Spreading Some Holiday Cheer with Smile Train

Recently, Mercer Middle School in Stone Ridge, Northern VA raised over $20,000 through events including Mercer Movie Night, Pride Bake Sale, Everyone Smiles for Ice Cream Art Sale, and a Walk-a-Thon for the charity Smile Train.

A donation of $20,000 pays for eighty surgeries.  That's 80 children who are able to have a happier and healthier life!  They are currently planning future events to continue fundraising in 2012.  Isn't that amazing?  Children helping other children is something to celebrate and encourage!

What is Smile Train?

·         Founded in 1999, Smile Train is the world’s largest cleft charity with over 2,200 partner surgeons operating in over 1,100 partner hospitals, and has helped children in over 80 countries - many of the world's poorest.
·         Smile Train provides free cleft lip and cleft palate surgery to children from poor families that give a child not just a new smile, but a chance at a new life.
·         Smile Train has provided over 680,000 free cleft surgeries since 1999.
·         Smile Train can give a child a second chance at life with a surgery that costs as little as $250 and takes as little as 45 minutes.
·         More information is available at http://smiletrain.org/.

The holiday season is in full swing and we are all very busy prepping for family, feasting, and fun. But this is also a season for giving, and there are many charities that are in need. Please help spread the word about this great organization.
