Aloha Friday Earthquakes & Hurricanes Oh My

blogging memes

Here is how Aloha Friday works from Kailani's blog An Island Life:

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

I experienced an earthquake for the first time in my life. It was very strange. I didn't realize it was an earthquake while it was happening. I thought perhaps there was some construction going on on our street, since our house has shaken before when there was digging in our neighborhood. But when it shook harder and seemed like the floor was going to drop out from underneath me, it was pretty surreal; something I won't forget. It only lasted maybe a minute, but that minute was enough for me.

Now we're gearing up for a hurricane that's going to hit the east coast.

My Question For You This Week: Have you ever been through an earthquake? What do you think about all these events lately?

  1. Yes I have been through earthquake, there is not much you can do during them. However You can secure you tall cabinets to the wall and use museum goop to secure you knick-knacks. that way they will not fall or break. That is what I have done and we had nothing fall during the 5.8 quake this week, All my neighbors had damage in the house, things fell.

  2. Twice. It was mostly just a lot of shaking.

    Have a great Friday!

  3. I don't remember being through an earthquake that really rattled me or something others around me felt.

I've been through hurricanes. I was a child then though.

The events of late just reminds me of God's word.

  4. I have experienced an earthquake when I lived in Cali. many years ago. I really think we are in our last days here on Earth. Just my opinion.

  5. Yes - once while living in Seattle and again this week in the recent earthquake in Virgina...felt it here in PA and like you, I thought the neighbor was bringing in a huge piece of equipment in their driveway - I had to go look out the windows and see, but when there was nothing, thought I was going crazy...and it felt like I had sea legs for that minute! :)

School Lunch - What Are You Packing?

  6. Yes...My first happened the same week we were having earthquake drills at our elementary school. They had gotten fancy by playing rumbling noise over the loudspeaker and having people act as if they were hurt and stuff like that, so when the tremor started I thought “How’d they get the window’s to shake like that.”

My second earthquake I thought my cat was shaking my bed...until I realized she wasn't in it. Then we had a lot of earthquakes my Sophmore or Junior Year of High School...can't remember. Those were kind of scary...but never got hurt or had much damaged.

  7. Oh, I see what you mean now. No, I have never been through an earthquake. I was at work(school) and I thought the people who were working upstairs installing equipment did something to the walls and the building was falling.

  8. YES! as a child in OR during the Columbus Day Hurricane! That was scary, a tree fell and split our home in two! No injuries thankfully. Then the earthquake...the ground rolled like it was liquid. Now I live in AK and have many earthquakes...usually a big boom and rocking but sometimes I wonder if I should take cover!

  9. My first earthquake was a little over a week ago- my desk started moving back and forth and at first I thought I had had too much coffee! Then I realized everything was moving! I have been through 2 hurricanes- but far enough off shore. I have to say- earthquakes are ver unsettling. At least with a hurricane- there is lots of warning!

I found you through Book Blogs and signed up to follow you. When you have a chance- please stop by and follow the blog for my middle grade novel that I am hoping to get published. http://thesecretdmsfilesoffairdaymorrow.blogspot.com/

    Take care-
Jess- although I may show up as Fairday, the main character from my novel. I can't figure out why that happens sometimes and I can't fix it. :)
