Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.

Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
* Grab your current read
* Open to a random page

* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)

My Teaser:

"It was a soul-cleansing four hours. When she got up from the bed, her neck and shoulders were stiff, her eyes were sore, her hand tense from writing. But the raw pain was gone from her heart. It was on paper now. It was something that could be touched and shared and thought about."

Aloha Friday Have You Turned On The Heat?

10/22/10
blogging memes, writing prompts

Here is how Aloha Friday works from Kailani's blog An Island Life:

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

It's starting to get colder at night here. Last night I think got down into the 40's. We actually had to turn on the heat after having 70-80 degree weather a week or two ago!

My Question For You This Week: Have You Turned on The Heat yet?

Shout Products Review and Go Play Initiative

10/12/10

Laundry is my least favorite chore and always has been.  I am often having to deal with different stains since I have an active tween son.  Grass stains and ketchup stains are the worst!  I welcome anything that will help me save his clothes.

I recently had the opportunity to review SC Johnson's Shout Laundry products.  We have been using shout stain remover as a staple in our house, so I was excited to have the opportunity to try their new advanced formula and color catchers.

The Shout trigger stain remover is easy to use.  Just spray it directly; it clings to the stain and penetrates.  It's safe for colorfast items and works in all temperatures.  This is great for right away treatments.

The Advanced gel works in all kinds of water temperatures and has a thick formula to help remove the toughest stains.  The scrubby brush is great because you can really get into those set in stains.  And if you don't have time to wash it right away, you can throw it in the hamper and toss it in the wash even a couple of days later.

The new Shout Color Catcher absorbs and traps the loose dyes to prevent bleeding onto your clothes.  I was pretty skeptical when I first heard about it.  After all, what if you try it and ruin your clothes?  But my hubby tried it with darks and whites mixed in together.  You could definitely see the blue coloring on the sheet and our whites didn't have any blue streaks.  We have yet to try this with reds, but so far, it seems to be a time saver.

Shout's Go Play Initiative

The Go Play initiative, brought to you by SC Johnson's Shout and Growing Tree Toys, encourages parents to take their kids outdoors and play.

Message from Shout: "Shout knows play is so much more than fun and games. Studies show that unstructured play helps kids build fundamental skills like problem solving, coping, and conflict resolution. In other words: play is how kids become happy, healthy adults. Fall has arrived with crisp, cool air and new reasons to go out and play. So, let your kids take that rewarding jump into a pile of leaves. Take at trip to the park and watch their imaginations run free. The one thing you won’t do is worry about their clothes; play should get messy and Shout can help."

For more great ideas, you can visit Shout on their Facebook page.

I love fall!   It's a great time to take nature walks, play in the park, or jump in some leaves.  Outdoor activities are very important for children of all ages.  You can get some fun ideas from The 52 Activities in Nature cards series by Lynn Gordon.  These cards can give you some focused learning activities on your nature walks.  You can purchase them through Amazon.  You can find other learning games and toys from Growing Tree Toys.

Disclosure:  I received the products from Shout in exchange for this review.  No other compensation was received; the opinions provided were my own. Any product claim, statistic, quote or other representation about a product or service should be verified with the manufacturer, provider or party in question.

Aloha Friday: Favorite Fall Clothing Item

10/8/10
blogging prompts, blogging memes

Here is how Aloha Friday works from Kailani's blog An Island Life:

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

I love fall! I especially love being able to snuggle up in a cozy sweater and a pair of comfy jeans. Since I'm outgrowing a lot of my clothes, I have to go out and find a good pair of Maternity jeans.

My Question For You This Week: What Is Your Favorite Fall Clothing item?

They Wanna Put That WHERE?

10/7/10
Here I am going into week 29 of my pregnancy. It has been a very busy time going to dr.'s appointments, coordinating my son's school activities, and trying to get the usual things done.

One of the not so fun parts about being pregnant is having to deal with needles. When you are 28 weeks, you are supposed to have the usual Glucose test. But some people also need to have a Rhogam shot because of their blood work. And I got to be one of those lucky people. Not only did I have to get 4 vials of blood drawn (between the Glucose test and the antibody check I have every few weeks) and get stuck TWICE (apparently I have small veins and the first few sticks didn't work!), I also had to have a shot.

When I went into the room to get my shot, I asked if I could have it in my other arm since my right arm already had some needle sticks. To my surprise, she said "No, this one goes in your buttocks."

My WHAT?

Ok, I don't remember having it THERE when I was pregnant the first time. I think I would definitely remember that.

I was totally not prepared for this. I have to get myself mentally ready for things like shots and blood draws and I'm usually fine as long as I don't watch or know exactly when the shot's going in. Otherwise, I tense up and make it worse for myself. And I'll admit it, I'm totally a wimp when it comes to any kind of pain, even it if it's small.

It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but it still hurt and burned going in. Not to mention the soreness trying to sit down for a day or so. And the humiliation of having to do this in the first place. After all, when you're pregnant, you really don't want people seeing your back side if they don't have to. But I guess you have to throw all modesty out the window. Because later on, there's a whole lot more than just dropping your pants for a shot.

Ah, the joys of pregnancy! Like my doctor said, women wouldn't go through all this if it weren't for the end product. I can't wait to look into my little girl's eyes! She is totally worth all this.

Litfuse Blog Tour: A Memory Between Us by Sarah Sundin

10/1/10

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Can they overcome the past to find a brighter future together?

Major Jack Novak has never failed to meet a challenge--until he meets army nurse Lieutenant Ruth Doherty. When Jack lands in the army hospital after a plane crash, he makes winning Ruth's heart a top-priority mission. But he has his work cut out for him. Not only is Ruth focused on her work in order to support her orphaned siblings back home, she also is determined not to give her heart to any man.

As the danger and tension of World War II rise to a fever pitch, Jack and Ruth will need each other more than ever. Can Jack break down her defenses? Or are they destined to go their separate ways?

From the English countryside to the perilous skies over France , A Memory Between Us takes you on a journey through love, forgiveness, and sacrifice.

A Memory Between Us is the second book in the WINGS OF GLORY series, which follows the three Novak brothers, B-17 bomber pilots with the US Eighth Air Force stationed in England during World War II.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Sarah Sundin is an on-call hospital pharmacist and holds a BS in chemistry from UCLA and a doctorate in pharmacy from UC San Francisco. Her great-uncle flew with the US Eighth Air Force in England during WWII. Sarah lives in California with her husband and three children. This is her second novel. For more info please visit her website at www.sarahsundin.com!

MY REVIEW:

I have always been fascinated with history.  I love that this book portrays people who were living during a very interesting part of history; WWII.  My grandfather fought in WWII and I've always wondered what kinds of struggles he encountered.  I didn't have the opportunity to read the first book in The Wings of Glory series, but I was able to easily follow this story on its own.  I enjoyed Ruth's character.  The author is very honest in revealing Ruth's spiritual doubts which makes her relatable.  She is also a very strong woman who has had to overcome some challenges in her life.  I found myself rooting for Jack to break down the walls of Ruth's heart.  This is a story you will want to read!

CONTEST:
Sarah Sundin presents The Movies and Memories Giveaway in honor of book 2 in the Wings of Glory series. A Memory Between Us is available for purchase wherever fine books are sold.
