Twitter Moms & Target: Our Thanksgiving Traditions

Twitter Moms and Target are hosting a fun contest.

All you have to do is answer this question:

What three favorite family Thanksgiving traditions have you passed or will pass on to your children?

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite times to get together with family. Over the years, I have had different traditions.

Here are my 3 favorites:

1. Watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

This has been a tradition in my family since I was little. (My mom loved the movie Miracle on 34th Street.) We'd always sit and watch the Macy's parade while my mom & grandma were busy preparing our meal in the kitchen. Now I enjoy sitting with my son and talking about all the different floats and performers.

2. Taking time to sit and chat with loved ones around the table

My grandfather always told us some wonderful stories whenever we went to his house. These stories have become precious to me now that I don't live close to him. I want my son to hear family stories and have some wonderful memories to look back on. We also share the things that we are thankful for. I think it's important to pass along a spirit of thankfulness.

3. Playing Games/Watching Movies

After we've had a chance to let our food settle, we usually watch a movie or find a game that we can play as a family. Some of our favorite holiday family movies are:
A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, Miracle on 34th Street, The Santa Clause, and Home Alone. Some of our favorite family games are: Uno, Monopoly, and Scene It?

What are your favorite Thanksgiving traditions?

  1. I love all your traditions.
I think one of my main traditions is alway have mashed potatoes and gravy. Now adays my kids are making alot of other things. But always have potatoes and gravy. Just kidding.
We all get togther and say what we are thankful for. I agree Thanksgiving is about being thankful. Hence the name.
We like to play gmaes. One of our favorites is throwing darts. We ahve an eectronic board and the little guys love doing it also. You just have to stand back.
The best Thanksgiving day tradition is to give everyone a hug, tell them you love them.

  2. Monopoly is our favorite family game:)

  3. Thanksgiving has been such an up in the air holiday for us. We're travelling- and to different places each year, so it's hard to stick with traditions. What I would like to do is to make it a tradition to always be home, but that would anger family members, even though they would be welcome here.

  4. We like to play a game or watch a Christmas movie too!

  5. Hi! I love talking traditions! Our family always watches a Christmas movie on Thanksgiving night. Sort of our own family Christmas kick off.

Thank you so much for visiting last week on my SITS day! I'm sorry that it took me so long to get over here, but I really like your blog!
