Aloha Friday: Desk Inspiration

9/18/09

Here is how Aloha Friday works from Kailani's blog An Island Life:

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

I work at home in my basement office where it is pretty quiet and bright; there is light purple on the walls and those kind of office lights you find in a classroom or office building. I decorated my desk area with some former class photos from my teaching days and other mementos. I thought I'd share a few of the decorations on my desk that inspire me:

I found this cute Jane Austen action figure on eBay. It comes with a little quill pen & book to place in her hand. I am a major Jane fan, so of course I had to have a Jane Austen accessory.

I love sunflowers and when I saw this Beanie baby, I had to have her. She has a cute little sunflower dress and sunflower hat and her name is Susannah. The quote inside the tag says "You are My Sunshine." Here's a quirky little factoid: my mom wanted to name me "Sunshine" (it was the 70's) but instead named me after the poet Shelley without the "e" (so everyone can misspell my name, sigh).

These are gifts I received from some of my students while teaching. I love the two plaques with Scripture!

My Question for This Week: What do you have on your desk or in your home that inspires you?

  1. I don't have a desk that i use anymore b/c I use a breakfast tray. My desk is now my bill pile.

  2. I have a copy of "Children Learn What They Live" by Dorothy Low Nolte. It reminds me to be patient and try not to yell at my kids (much), lol.

  4. I keep pictures of my son because he is the reason I work hard everyday. Being a single mother puts things alot differently, if you don't work who is going to take care of you and that baby. So I keep my son picture on my cell phone, and on my desk.

  7. In thinking about my desk, I don't really have anything "inspirational" on it. I have this small office area with everything I "need" but really nothing inspirational.

  8. I have one photo of the four of us and a nice little cherry paper divider ensemble-thingy. And our little printer and my laptop.

Kind of simple but it works. Don't get too much of a chance to actually SIT there as I'm generally roaming around the house w/laptop in tow.

  18. I don't have a desk, but I would have to say that the things in my home that inspire me are my books, my son, my Bible and... my mirror!!! LOL! When I look in the mirror, I see potential, and that's enough to get me motivated! :-)
