Raising girls can be such a blessing, but also a great responsibility. There are so many different dynamics when it comes to girls from the complexities of friendships, to peer pressure and self-image. It's so important to help them become confident, strong, and brave as they go through this maze of childhood into the teen years and beyond. In order to do that, they need a strong foundation.
While my daughters are young and just learning Biblical truths, I want them to be confident in the fact that they are unique and beautiful children that are deeply loved by their family and by God. And that no matter what tough things come their way, they are always loved and can get through anything with that confidence.
The Brave Girls 365-Day Devotional is geared toward girls ages 6-10 and is part of the Tommy Nelson Brave Girls series. This devotional has a message for each day of the year, including a Scripture verse that applies to the topic, a prayer pointer, and room to write their own thoughts. It's like their own spiritual diary of sorts!
About Brave Girls Devotional:
Join Hope, Glory, Faith, Honor, and Gracie as they discover that the closer they are to God, the more He makes ordinary girls like them strong and courageous! Learn with them how to be brave at school, at home, in sports, with friends—pretty much everywhere! Even when struggles are big . . . He is bigger.
This devotional includes a year’s worth of readings with amazing stories from Scripture, lots of fun quizzes and illustrations, and powerful truths such as:
- I always have the power to love others because God loved me first.
- I can talk to God about anything, whenever I need to!
- God loves me for who I am, even when I’m different from everyone else.
- God can use someone small like me to do big things with Him.
The five Brave Girls Hope, Glory, Honor, Gracie, and Faith are introduced in the beginning of the devotional. Each has different likes, interests, and represents a special quality. They explain what youth group is all about: learning how to work together to know God better and to tell other people about Him too. And they invite your child to come along on their journey to learn more about God and being a brave girl throughout the year.
My oldest daughter just turned six and needs me to read these aloud to her. Some of the topics are a little bit above her age level yet, such as the ones discussing sharing prayer requests with friends on social media (she isn't on a social media site) or wearing make-up. But many of them she can relate to, such as prayer, teamwork, taking care of your body, and inner vs. outer beauty. It's a devotional that she can grow into and read on her own as she gets older.
As a mom of girls, I love the messages of empowerment, unconditional love, and acceptance in this book. We will be checking out all of the other Brave Girls books in the series too!
