Suffragette 19 days

Thanksgiving. It's a time to spend with family and friends and reflect on all of the blessings in our lives throughout the year.

One of the blessings we may take for granted is our right as women to vote in our country.  It's such a simple thing really.   Something we don't really think about growing up in our generation.

There are still many women around the globe who do not have equal rights.  I am thankful that I have the right to live where I choose, dress as I choose, marry who I love, and choose to stay at home with my two girls.   I can't imagine a life without those choices.

To celebrate the upcoming film Suffrage this Thanksgiving, Focus Features is bringing awareness of the 19th amendment granting women the right to vote in 1919 with the "19 Days of of Suffrage" initiative.

Academy Award nominees Carey Mulligan and Helena Bonham Carter, and three-time Academy Award winner Meryl Streep, lead the cast of a powerful drama about the women who were willing to lose everything in their fight for equality in early-20th-century Britain.

The stirring story centers on Maud (played by Carey Mulligan), a working wife and mother whose life is forever changed when she is secretly recruited to join the U.K.’s growing suffragette movement. Galvanized by the outlaw fugitive Emmeline Pankhurst (Meryl Streep), Maud becomes an activist for the cause alongside women from all walks of life.

When increasingly aggressive police action forces Maud and her dedicated fellow suffragettes underground, they engage in a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse with the authorities, who are shocked as the women’s civil disobedience escalates and sparks debate across the nation. Inspired by true events,  Suffragette” is a moving drama exploring the passion and heartbreak of those who risked all they had for women’s right to vote – their jobs, their homes, their children, and even their lives.

I am excited to learn more about the brave women who fought for women's rights during this time period through this movie.  I am fascinated with history and think it's very important to know where we have come from and how we can improve for future generations.

I'm thankful that this year we've been able to join my family in adopting a family for Christmas. It's been so much fun shopping for the girl I get to buy for. My 18 year old daughter helped me pick stuff out, I think she really enjoyed it too!
