I have fallen in love with a new series on the Hallmark Channel called When Calls the Heart. The original When Calls the Heart movie premiered on DVD back in November and I have been hooked ever since. If you haven't seen it, here is your chance to see the feature length film from the first two episodes of the television series: When Calls the Heart: Lost & Found which debuted on DVD Feb. 25th.
Catch up with other episodes in the series:

When Calls the Heart: A Telling Silence
When Calls the Heart: The Dance
When Calls the Heart: Second Chances
When Calls the Heart: Change of Heart
When Calls the Heart: Rules of Engagement
“When Calls the Heart” tells the captivating story of Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow), a young teacher accustomed to her high society life, who receives her first classroom assignment in Coal Valley, a small coalmining town where life is simple, but often fraught with challenges. Lori Loughlin plays Abigail Stanton, a wife and mother whose husband, the foreman of the mine, along with a dozen other miners, has just been killed in an explosion. The newly widowed women find their faith is tested when they must go to work in the mines to keep a roof over their heads. Elizabeth charms most everyone in Coal Valley, except Constable Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing) who believes Thatcher’s wealthy father has doomed the lawman’s career by insisting he be assigned in town to protect the shipping magnate’s daughter. Living in a 19th century coal town, Elizabeth will have to learn the ways of the frontier if she wishes to thrive in the rural west on her own.
I didn't think I would be very happy when I found that they switched out the lead actors in the original movie when the series started. I hate it when you start out with certain actors and then you find someone completely different! But I was pleasantly surprised when Erin Krakow appeared in the tv series. She really is genuine and convincing as Elizabeth and her chemistry with Daniel Lissing who plays Constable Jack is wonderful.
In When Calls the Heart: Lost and Found, you get to know more about the townspeople and see the friendships that Elizabeth makes with many of them, in particular Abigail Stanton (Lori Loughlin from one of my favorite family-friendly series back in the day Full House). You also get to see how difficult it is for Elizabeth to adjust to her new life in Coal Valley.
The story line is compelling and the plot has a great pace. And yes, it is more of a "chick flick" type series, but one that you don't have to worry about content around your kids with good "old fashioned" values. There's action, some clean romance, and great life lessons about faith, friendship, and family. I think I love this series even more than the Love Comes Softly series of movies!
Once you see the DVD, you will want to continue on with the rest of the series, it is that good. I am crossing my fingers and toes that the powers that be behind the Hallmark Channel line-up will continue on with this series for many more seasons! We need more quality family-friendly shows like this one on tv.
