Wayne Thomas Batson, fantasy fiction for teens
There is an unseen world of good and evil where nightmares are fought and hope is reborn. Enter The Door Within.

Aidan Thomas is miserable. Within two weeks, Aidan’s life is completely uprooted as his parents move the family across the country to care for his ailing grandfather. The quiet but imaginative Aidan is struggling with attending a new school and fitting in with a new group of friends. But when he begins having nightmares and eerie events occur around his neighborhood, Aidan finds himself drawn to his grandfather's basement—where he discovers three ancient scrolls and a mysterious invitation to another world.
No longer confined to the realm of his own imagination, Aidan embarks on an adventure where he discovers a long-fought war between good and evil. With the fate of two worlds hanging in the balance, Aidan faces Paragory, the eternal enemy with unfathomable power. Will Aidan be willing to risk everything and trust the unseen hand of the one true King?

Wayne Thomas Batson is the author of several bestselling novels, including The Door Within trilogy, The Isle series, and The Berinfell series. As a middle school reading teacher, Wayne writes adventures set in imaginative locales because he believes that we all dream of doing something that matters.

Review:

We are huge Wayne Thomas Batson fans at our house!  He is a local author & teacher and we have been to many of his presentations and book signings.  It's been a yearly tradition that we have enjoyed as a family.

My son thinks the concept behind this series is great!  He loves the Medieval world the author created.  Wayne's writing style draws you in and keeps you hooked throughout the book.  The story leaps off the page and makes you feel like you are right there in the action.

The characters are real and heroic.   For example, one of the characters in the real world "Gramps", is in a wheel chair, but his twin in the "other" world is a huge dangerous warrior who is able to walk and fights evil.   And the main character Aidan is very likeable.  My son also enjoyed the parallels of good vs. evil and heaven/hell woven into the story without being preachy.  This is definitely an epic adventure for tweens & teens!

I have read so many books that it is impossible to have a favorite. They are all a favorite in their own way. Right now I'm enjoying The Iron Fey series by Julie Kagawa and the Wicked Lovely series by Melissa Marr.
