Heart of the Country Giveaway #sponsored

Disclosure:  I received a DVD in exchange for sharing with my readers.  Fox provided the information & the giveaway prize.

Twentieth Century Fox
I love movies that are based upon novels.  Though I haven't read this book, it sounds like a great story with a beautiful setting in North Carolina.   And the trailer preview looks like it would make a great date night movie.

Releasing on DVD and Bluray August 20th, Heart of the Country is a love story starring country music singer Jana Kramer, Randy Wayne, and Gerald McRaney.  It is based on the novel by Rene Gutteridge and John Ward.

Faith (Kramer) and Luke (Wayne) have it all. Faith is a beautiful singer and Luke is an up-and- coming businessman. When their life together is shattered and she is forced to return home to the family she turned her back on years ago she must find the strength to love again.

Country’s hottest solo female singer, Jana Kramer, released her self-titled debut album last year to much critical praise, earning her the title of ACM’s New Female Vocalist of the Year for 2013, and has sold almost 1.5 million tracks to date. Kramer is country radio’s No.1 most-played debut artist of 2012 and just released her current single “I Hope It Rains,” to radio, along with her new video. Watch the trailer and check out this feature on Gerald McRaney.  Then be sure to see how you can enter to win a copy of the book and the movie!

Gerald McRaney has played many lovable characters in his long career.  In Heart of the Country, he once again plays a father figure who is sure to capture the hearts of the audience.

See if you can recognize some of your favorites that he has played over the years.  My personal favorites were Promised Land and Touched by an Angel.

Major Dad

Gerald McRaney

From 1989 until 1993, McRaney played the leading role of Major John D. McGillis in the television series Major Dad.  The show won the “Best New Television Series” in 1990 from the Young Artists Awards. His lovable character brought families together across the country as they sat down to watch one of their favorite father figures and laugh over his experiences.

Designing Women

Gerald McRaney

Although he only appeared in two episodes, Dash Goff was a fan-favorite from the TV show Designing Women. Gerald McRaney played Dash, the ex-husband of Suzanne. McRaney played this endearing writer and captured the hearts of the audience as well as Suzanne. Of her six ex-husbands, Dash was her true love.

Touched by an Angel

Gerald McRaney

In the long-lived television series Touched by an Angel, McRaney played the role of Russell Greene. McRaney made 7 appearances between the years 1996 and 1999.

His character was so popular that a spin-off series was created based around an older version of Russell.

Promised Land

Gerald McRaney

To continue the story of the beloved character Russell Greene, a series entitled Promised Land was created. McRaney once again played a lovable father figure as he took his family on a cross-country road trip. By the end of the three-year series, fans had become ever more attached to Russell Greene.

 Southland

Gerald McRaney

When McRaney first appeared in the hit television series Southland this year, the audience was thrilled. As a guest star, he played the role of Hicks, a retired police officer. Hicks lives on a boat in Marina del Rey. Although his character may drink too much and appear to be a bum, he is a favorite of the audience and an example to Officer Cooper.

I've loved Gerald McRaney in all his roles. I would have to say my favorite though, was his role as Dash Goff, the ex-husband of Suzanne on Designing Women. In real life, Gerald McRaney and Delta Burke (Susanne from Designing Women) got married in 1989 and are still married to this day. I've watched the trailer of "Heart of Country" and the role of him playing the father... he looks like his done another fantastic role. He is a very good actor.
