I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Hershey Entertainment and Resorts. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating. No other compensation was received and all opinions are my own.
This is the time of year that we start planning our family activities for late spring and summer. Since we haven't been able to afford a lengthy vacation, we often plan day trips to places we think the kids will enjoy.
One of our favorite places to visit is Hershey, PA. It's only a 2 hr drive from the Baltimore area and there is a variety of fun attractions to entertain not only the kids but adults too. It is definitely worth the drive!
One of the most popular attractions of course is Hersheypark. They have 65 rides and attractions from roller coasters to leisurely rides like the carousel. I love how you can measure your child and easily figure out what rides they are tall enough for. Back in the day, my son was just a little Reece's cup. Oh, memories!
There are also entertaining shows, an 11 acre walk-through ZooAmerica (we have yet to visit this but it's on our list!), and water attractions at The Boardwalk to cool off during hot days. I know The Attic Baby would love the water features!
And what would a trip to Hershey be without something sweet? It IS the sweetest place on earth after all. I love visiting Chocolate World! Not only can you take a fun free ride through the process of chocolate making, but you can sample some too (they give you chocolate after the ride). The singing cows are lots of fun and you'll most likely find yourself singing that tune for the rest of the day.
The kids will love being a Hershey factory worker and personalizing candy bar labels. My
son did the factory worker thing when he was smaller. He even wore the little paper hat. It was too cute and I wish the photos I had back
then were taken on a digital camera because they were a bit too dark. (Lesson learned. I will do better with little miss when it's her turn) Plus there's a new one-of-a-kind 4D interactive experience called Hershey's Great Chocolate Factory Mystery.
There really are so many things to see and do that you may want to take several days to explore it all. One of the places we'd love to go to is the Hersheypark Camping Resort. Mind you, my idea of "camping" is definitely not the sleep out under the stars in a tent kind. I like my own bathroom and a bed. So their deluxe cabins definitely are more appealing to me!
Cabins feature heating, air conditioning, ceiling fan, dinner and table seating (woot no outdoor fights with the bugs!), bathroom with a shower, and a kitchenette that includes a fridge. Now THAT's my style of camping right there! They also offer discounted admission to the park and free shuttle service.
With so many fun things to see and do (and chocolate, did I mention the chocolate?) it's no wonder we are such Hershey, PA fans. If you're looking for a fun day trip or family vacation that is close to home, check out Hershey.
