{2012 Holiday Gift Guide} MailPix

holiday gifts, gift ideas

Sometimes it can be difficult to think of the perfect gift for certain folks on your list.  Especially those who, when asked, say they don't need anything or don't want anything.  A personalized photo gift can solve that challenge!   Personalized photo gifts are great for anyone, but especially those relatives who live far away.  You can send fun photos of your family in various ways that will put a smile on your loved ones' faces.

MailPix is a relatively new company that offers a variety of options from holiday cards, photo magnets, photo books, and ornaments to larger sized gifts like fleece blankets, aprons and tote bags.   Their goal is to help you turn your images into memories while keeping costs low.  I am all about the savings at holiday time so this sounded right up my alley.

I love giving photo gifts to our extended family since they live quite a distance from us.  I decided to take a photo of my two kiddos to make special gifts, but little did I know that getting them both in one photo that I would like would be a challenge.  I think I took about 50 photos before I found a couple that I could actually use.  Toddlers and teens are not the easiest or most cooperative subjects!

I uploaded a few photos to check out the features of the site and the photo options.  The site is very user-friendly and easy to navigate.

Pros:
upload time is fairly fast
easy upload choices for prints and larger size gifts
options to save your projects and come back later
syncs with your Facebook and Instagram photos
free unlimited storage

Cons:
it does not give you an indicator that your photo is the correct quality
you can't move your photo right or left to adjust it, only up and down

I love the variety in gift choices on the site!  There were so many fun choices that it was difficult to make up my mind.  I finally decided on 21 holiday cards, 4 fleece photo blankets, and 3 snowflake ornaments.  And I got them all for a little under $100!

Shhhh!  Don't tell my family!  (they are under strict orders not to read this, so hopefully they aren't peeking)

For holiday cards, I chose the classic 4x8 size.    They have a great variety of designs to choose from.  Cards are printed on Kodak edged photographic paper and include envelopes. I love how mine turned out!

Bonus:  I received 50% off and 10 free cards!

The fleece blankets are made of 100% polyester and measure approx. 40 x 60".  It's a great size for displaying on my couch!

The quality of the photo turned out well and I'm sure their grandparents will love seeing their quirky faces!

I took a photo of the back so you could see the material.    It's a bit thin, so it's probably more suited for display purposes than for snuggling under if you like a thicker blanket.  If you do plan on using it as a blanket, it has a portable carry handle that you can attach after you roll it up for transport.  The tag says it is machine washable and can be put in the dryer, but not dry cleaned.  I haven't tried washing it yet, but it's reassuring to know that it is machine washable.

Right now through Dec. 31st, you can get a fleece blanket for only $20.

Lastly, I made a snowflake ornament for myself and for grandparents.   They are made out of porcelain and measure 3 x 3". We haven't left ours on the tree yet since my in-laws are coming to visit and I don't want to spoil the surprise.  But the rope hanger seems sturdy enough and if it does happen to come off, you can always use a wire ornament hook in its place.
