Support Your Community #GivingTuesday

11/20/12
It's so easy to get caught up in the madness of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.  Like most of you,  I'll be scoping out the best deals to complete holiday shopping for friends and family.

In the midst of all the holiday prep, why not consider supporting the causes you care about in your community on Giving Tuesday?

One week from today on Tues. Nov. 27thUnited Way of Central Maryland  and many of its local partners will join #GivingTuesday™.  This is a national effort to launch the giving season and make supporting your community easy and trendy.  For the first time this year, more than 400 nonprofits across the country are committed to making #GivingTuesday as big for charitable organizations as Black Friday and Cyber Monday are for retailers.

United Way of Central Maryland

United Way of Central Maryland and its local funded partners serve people living at or near the federal poverty level through programs like the Access to Healthy Food and Family Stability initiatives as well as 2-1-1 Maryland at UWCM.  #GivingTuesday donations will go toward these important programs and the following organizations:

American Heart Association
Arundel House of Hope
Associated Black Charities
Boys & Girls Club of Harford County
Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Baltimore
Bridges to Housing Stability
Caroline Center
Carroll County Food Sunday
Civic Works
Food Link
Govans Ecumenical Development Corporation
Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center
Harford Community Action Council

“While no one person acting alone can solve tough social issues like homelessness and hunger, United Way consistently demonstrates that, acting together, people can make a real difference in the lives of the less fortunate. Individuals giving to United Way of Central Maryland on #GivingTuesday™ can rely on the money being directed to help those facing poverty locally get and stay out of crisis and move to self-sufficiency.”

--Mark Furst, President and CEO of UWCM

Great way to remember what this season is about, giving. I don't know if we have a GivingTuesday here in WA, but if there is, I'll for sure do my part.
