My Review/Thoughts:

I remember reading the Love Comes Softly series of books when I was a young adult.  I loved how the author continued with one family and told the story of each generation; the love, the tears, and the struggle to keep faith during troubling times.

I have seen each of the movies by the Hallmark Channel and enjoyed them, though details from the books are a bit different in the movies (which is usually the case when a book is translated to film).

This movie is the prequel to the Love Comes Softly movie and tells the love story of Clark Davis and first wife, Ellen (with so many "Love" titles, it can be a bit confusing to figure out the sequence).  If you haven't seen the Love Comes Softly series, and you like sequencing, you might want to start here and work your way forward through the series.

I loved many parts in this movie.  It was nice to see some background on Clark and to look back at the kind of man he was before Love Comes Softly.  I also enjoyed the side characters, especially Millie (played by Nancy McKeon).  My only criticism in this movie is that the development of the background story overshadows the development of the romance story between Clark and Ellen.   There is only so much time in a Hallmark movie, and often I've seen that the relationship between the two main characters is rushed.  I would have liked to see more of how they fell in love and not just jumping straight to a proposal.  But overall, I enjoyed this as much as many of the others in the series (though my absolute favorite so far is the first movie Love Comes Softly).

Love Begins carries on the tradition of great family-friendly entertainment with themes of love, family values, hard-work, faith, and determination.  It is a movie that you can watch without worrying about language or sexual content.
